Help in fog

Hi,
Had to drive home in the dark countryside last night in thick fog.
My headlamps automatically turn main beam on and off when it senses oncoming cars or streetlights.
However, main beam in fog can reflect the light back to me.
Is there an on/off setting for this for when it is dark and foggy and I want continuous dipped beam?

isn't that in the instruction manual, how to turn it off? Mine is not on auto, prefer manual control, safer.

Yes. It's in the settings menu. It's the first thing I did as MG are crap at doing it safely.

Weirdly, my auto full beam works perfectly.

You don’t have to disable it completely.

There is a wee switch on the left hand stalk, slide to the left and it sets lights to manual, the display briefly says something like “automatic lights off”.

Is that fitted to all MG ZS EV? It isn’t fitted to my UK version. Perhaps this is a NZ variant or vehicle certification requirement?

it is, I have it, mine is also 2022 UK model, check out the instruction manual. it's light switch - auto/manual but you twist it down...

We might be getting confused, there is a rotary switch on my 2022 that turns the automatic off/headlight dipped on and off. The discussion above relates to the auto headlight mainbeam/dipped on and off. I have only ever seen this in buried in the car settings.

I am a bit confused by the above two answers about this little switch on the headlamp stalk.

the car doesn't know when it's foggy... front camera disables most safety options when the windscreen gets misty/foggy and short of having a true weather/fog recognition capable car, you either switch off Auto Main Beam in the menu, or flip the stalk switch to manual when driving in fog, no other option.

yes, you are right. The post from @kiwi mentions "a wee switch on the left hand stalk, slide to the left and it sets lights to manual ..." (he seems to drive MG4) which is most likely the equivalent of our rotary switch for Auto/Manual lights.

I mentioned the rotary switch (Auto lights) as the only alternative option to going into the car menu and disabling it there - although I haven't tried this works, I assume Auto Main Beam would only work when the rotary switch is on Auto, not on manual lights/ If I'm wrong there, then yes, the only option is to switch the Auto Main Beam off in the car menu.

Do you not just flick the high beams on and off manually twice in succession? This seems to get rid of the auto high beam symbol for me without affecting the auto switch between drls and dipped.

Yes, that was the root of my question. At least in my UK 22 plate, that’s what the owner's manual states but I have found that this works once but then stops working and you have to go into the settings menu and recycle the slider off and on.

I was wondered whether it was because I was not using it as it was designed or whether it was another escaped error in the poor-quality buggy SAIC software.

Had a play while going to the shops. Worked flawlessly half a dozen times going down back roads on the way there.
Tried again on the way back and once auto was off wouldn't come back on.
Guess you're right, some kind of intermittent software issues.

Yes, exactly that. I think you’re right, it is an intermittent software error, which has escaped the MG quality assurance process.
