Can I ask what other drivers have found to be the best option, I’m still new to automatics let alone electric cars and dread the first time I come to a steep hill and have to stop, in a manual I had it down but do I really trust hill hold or use the auto hold? Not many hills around me thank goodness, so far it’s gentle slopes and it’s fine on these but a big old steep hill has me wondering!

I use auto hold all the time, in fact I wouldn’t be without it.

It's such a handy feature to have and a breeze to use.

I don't just wait for hills either, I use it everywhere.

Just a little extra push on the brake pedal, check the warning lights gone green, then relax. (A in a circle)
Just accelerate away when your ready. Could not be simpler.

I only use the handbrake if I think I may be waiting a while, although you can sit on auto hold for as long as you want.

I’ll put auto hold on tomorrow and try to get used to it, then I will need to find a hill at 3am in the morning with nobody around to try it out, I may just be over thinking it after years of driving a manual but a steep hill right now give me palpitations ?

Honestly you are overthinking it.
It's so easy and intuitive to use.

Don't wait for a hill, you can use it on the flat, at a set of lights for example.

If you start using it, it will become second nature, then when you do need it on a hill, you won't think twice. ?

If you decide to put on the handbrake, the result will be the same.

Your car will remain perfectly still until you press the accelerator and move smoothly away.

Welcome to the future!??

Just go gradually (?see what I did there ?) gradually- start with an easy gradient and work up from there. These evs just make hill climbing so so simple - no clutch, no gears, no drama - and best of all virtually silent ?

What about OPD, that stops the car until you hit the go peddle. I haven't tried it on a hill, but I'm confident you wouldn't roll back. Next time I'm out I'll try it.

In OPD, the auto hold comes on automatically, whenever you stop, gradient or not.

In normal operation and assuming the gradient isn't severe, the car will not roll back regardless of whether you have selected OPD or not.

But you can hear the motors working to keep it still, so activate auto hold yourself, or use the handbrake.

I haven't used Auto Hold for so long that I forget the car has it.
However in normal operation (not Auto Hold) the Mk1 ZS will "hold" on to the brakes anyway for a short time, enough for you to go on to the accelerator. Or use your left foot on the brake if its that severe a hill.

I know what you mean, Pam24. I've been used to driving a CVT auto box which automatically holds on a hill. My present car, Hyundai Bayon, uses a DCT auto box which doesn't immediately hold and I need to use the handbrake. Some quite hairy moments till I got used to it.

It’s like it’s almost too good to be true so I’m waiting for it to not work and end up rolling backwards ?
Our exit from ASDA is quite steep and if the car attempts to roll back the ABS cuts in and applies the brakes before the car has gone an inch. Wait till you try traffic jam assist, we got caught up in a 1hr delay on the M6 up to J33, I never touched the brakes or the accelerator once, just set the ACC to 20mph and double pull the ACC stalk. Makes driving a lot less stressful.

ACC!! I haven’t got to that page yet ???
Adaptive Cruise Control, it uses the top camera and the front radar to keep you in the centre of the lane and a set distance from the vehicle in front depending on speed. I use it all the time on motorways it takes some of the hassle out of driving.

ACC will NOT keep you in your lane!

You need to steer the car yourself.

TJA will "attempt" to keep you in you lane but is not recommended for higher speed roads. (Although I have used in on Motorways fairly successfully)

I agree ACC on it's own will not keep you in lane, but a double pull on he ACC stalk does a reasonable job of it. Why they call it traffic jam assist I don't know. Roll on when I can get a Tesla with Advanced Autopilot, or even FSD.

funny that, I was thinking of Tesla last night when people were complaining about MG software ...

NOTE:
Local reports say no one was injured, and the Tesla driver refused to go to hospital.

footage captured the moment a Tesla Model 3 car crashed into an overturned truck on a busy highway in Taiwan.
According to the driver of the Tesla, the vehicle was on Autopilot mode at the time of the accident.

And the driver should have been paying attention, ready to take over. Autopilot doesn't even pretend to be autonomous. It's basically a slightly advanced adaptive cruise control.

You know its two seperate systems right?

Edit: One system, two functions, depending on your speed.
