I live in the UK and rental the house i live in. The owner of the property has approved an installation request for a home charger.

There are so many options out there i dont know which one would be best for me. I will need the grant available and ideally look for interest free credit options to pay the balance. As anyone been through this process or could recommended a decent untethered charge.

I got the Givenergy one to go with my solar inverter.

If possible within your remit get one that is smart, i.e. allows integration with third parties like Octopus who can control it and give you lower prices (sometimes free energy) as a result.

I would recommend looking at Hypervolt but I'm not sure they do an untethered charger so if you need that (is it going on a plinth?) then they are out, unfortunately.

So probably go for Zappi if it will be reliably in reach of WiFi and Ohme if not.

If these don't qualify for your grant then let us know which you are thinking of and people can share any experiences they have had.

I went with Ohme epod bought directly from Octopus energy. Good integration with their off-peak tariff, and great experience overall. They will apply the government grant, if that applies automatically. Unsure if they do installment plan for the charger. I had to pay upfront. But perhaps a quick call to them will sort this out.

Your situation might be different from mine but the best bit of advice I got when I ordered my car was to get a tethered charger. It is so much more convenient. I went with podpoint which has been fine and works well for me but I think there are smarter options out there.

I have just had a Hypervolt charger installed. I preferred the idea of a tethered charger and wanted to use ethernet to connect it to the Internet rather than wifi or cellular. A local contractor recommended by my MG Dealer was £160 cheaper than Octopus and it was done in less than a week.

I agree, my own charger is tethered and I swapped out the 5mtr lead for a 10mtr one so I don't have to worry about parking perfectly to reach the charge port.

Hi, who is your current energy supplier?
The two Ohme's available work well with a number of tariffs from different supplies.
The Zappi is a great unit but not everyone likes its shape.
The Wallbox is a nice unit which works well with Intelligent Octopus Go.

I didnt think government grants were available any more for EV Wallboxes ?

As the OP mentioned they lived in a rented property the landlord can still get a grant. However they also mention wanting interest free loan so implying they are paying themselves, in which case there will be no grant.
Get the landlord to arrange it with the grant and then pay them if necessary.

Also agreed go tethered so much easier.

Renters can get a grant covering either £350 or 75% of installing an EV Charger point providing you comply with certain criteria.

As you're with EDF then I suggest you consider PodPoint (owned by EDF and with linked tariffs). Very happy with my PodPOint.

Bearing in mind I have no idea if either EDF or PodPoint home chargers are good for OP, isn't current energy supplier a terrible reason to choose an EV charger given how easy it is to change?

I had an Easee wall charger fitted (untethered) in June 2023. No problems with the app and the EDF EV tariff charges me 9p per kwh between midnight and 5am. And everything seems to function with the iSmart app as well...
