I can't bind my car!

I picked up my new MG4 Trophy at the start of the week and while I'm enjoying it, there are some niggles. The main one is that I can't in any way shape or form bind the app to the car. I set up an account before getting the car but when I go into the log in part of settings, there's no QR code to scan. I've also tried using my email and phone number but neither work. I had the car at my dealer yesterday and they added 4 (!) updates but there's no change. I did notice an airplane icon in the top right of the infotainment screen - is this anything to do with the issue?
I've searched through other posts but nothing I've tried has made any difference. HELP!!!

Is the head unit activated ?
IRRC I think you have to log in to your account in the car to get the QR code.

Why would you not get your dealer to do this for you as part of the handover? That's what I did. Made them go through everything with me so I drove away happy that everything was working . I know if you have it delivered then you are on your own , but there are videos on YouTube if you are really stuck.

Due to hold ups and time restrictions I didn't have time to get a full handover but as I said, everything I've seen so far hasn't helped hence why I'm asking here

IRRC I think you have to log in to your account in the car to get the QR cod
I THINK it is, I've looked at activation but I think it's down to configuration but I can't work out how to do that. Incidentally, the satnav and weather map aren't working, so it could be that it's not activated

There was a setting that was either on off or I'd accidentally switched off that is now on and it's taken me past the first stage. The app isn't accepting the second QR code now so while I'm closer, I'm not there yet!!

Make sure you only scan the bottom QR code (from memory) as the other QR code is just to take you to your app store to download the app. I had to block the other QR code with my hand to stop my phone from reading the wrong one.

I've just tried that that but as soon as the phone sees the QR code, the app closes. I feel it's an app issue
 
dgfawkes, for what its worth, and I may be talking out of the back of my head, but I had something similar a while ago, and I had to do a complete unload of the app, and start again from scratch.
I followed this guys help on YouTube,
It sorted my problem and, touch wood, everything is working again properly.
If this doesn't sort your problem, sorry I cant help any further :(
 
Surely an airplane showing on the screen denotes no network connection? I would recommend you contact mg customer support ( [email protected] ) they were really helpful when I bought my used SE LR that turned out to be bound to the previous owner, obviously not the same as your problem but they might be able to advise you.

Or you could try going flat out up the M6 and see if it takes off 😁

That's what I thought and couldn't work out how to get rid of it/switch on "the network". It turns out that deep in the settings, something was off (probably by me!) but it's now working. Unfortunately I can't get through the second QR code because the app keeps closing, I've already uninstalled and tried again but no joy. I'll leave it until tomorrow

Try this:
How to reactivate the MG4 head unit.

From the main screen, swipe left to the other screen and select “settings”

On the settings screen, select “system” from the list on the right hand side.

On the system screen, tap “Entertainment system” 5 times in quick succession,

this brings up a dialogue to enter a pin number.

Enter the pin number: 200519 this opens the Engineering mode page.

On the Engineering mode screen, select “Activate” on the right hand side this brings up another page. On the list on the left change “switch environment” from “/Current PP” to “/Current P” then exit that screen. Select activate again to check that the environment is still set to “/Current P” then select Activate at the top of the list then when it confirms activation, exit.

Note: WiFi must be connected to perform the above.

Exit engineering mode and go back to the main settings page and under activation the page should show the head unit as activated (blue). You can now activate the map underneath it if you haven’t already done so.

Hi. I belive the car has a 3G or 4G sim. The fact that its on airplane mode explains it. Go back to the dealer so they can remove the sim from airplane mode, unless of course if the airplane mode is for your phone. Make sure it's not by not disconecting your phone from the usb cable and turning off Bluetooth. If the car remains in airplane mode, take it back to the dealer. Also, what software version did they update to?

I think I may have inadvertently unticked the terms in settings which caused all this and although I've been able to get the first QR code, the app isn't accepting the second one therefore I think there's an app issue. I've been in touch with MG support but I've not heard back yet. My fingers, arms and legs are all crossed!
