I notice that the MG4 has quite low torque compared to other EVs (250Nm compared to 395Nm for the Hyundai Kona, for example). What impact does this have on the drive - hills, overtaking etc?

I'm particularly interested in hills as I drive up a steep one on my commute but won't be able to include it on our test drive next week. I have driven up it in the Kona and it really flew! Can anyone share any experience of steep hills in the MG4?

It's good but depends what your used to, you will notice mid range torque from about 40mph isn't as good as your Kona.. I had a deposit on the Trophy & was really looking forward to the MG4 as the driving dynamics are amazing & from a standing start it really takes off but when I test drove it I could feel the difference in the mid-range & felt I'd miss the overtake performance I'm used too, I'm going to hang on till the performance version comes out hopefully next yr..
It's an amazing bit of kit for the price, but It all depends on personal preference which is why a test drive is so important, only you can decide if slightly lower mid-range punch is deal breaker..

Not the dreaded torque and power argument again. ? Don't forget that gearing is also significant. But a ton of theory is outweighed by an ounce of practical experience - get a test drive and try your test hill.
I'm used to some very fast cars and the MG4 is fast enough for my current needs.

Thanks for the replies. I'm new to EVs so just trying to understand how to interpret performance figures.

The Kona was on a test drive. Unfortunately the MG dealership is too far away to include my normal hill in our test drive (next week) - obviously if I could drive the MG4 up it I would! I don't think there are any equivalent hills near the dealership which is why I'm seeking the experience of others.

I'm not after outright speed, but my current car has a small petrol engine and struggles particularly on hills so I would like to see an improvement from it's replacement.

See if you can find a renault zoe to test on the hill, it "only" has 245nm :)

Our LEAF has similar specs. 107bhp, 254Nm, 1505kg vs 201bhp, 250Nm, 1785kg

I've yet to find a hill it doesn't power up without problem even with 3 fatties + luggage (400kg)

It won't have any issues going up hills, the way an EV produces the torque is different to a small ice vehicle, only time you'll notice it is if you're used to another EV with same power but more torque & you drive them back to back but as you're new to the EV world I'm pretty sure it'll be fine...
