Inefficient charging cable

Purchased a "Simply Auto EV005" charging cable from Euro Car Parts.
Cable is Type 2 to Type 2 - 32AMP - 5M - 3 Phase.
Connected to 22kW charging station (Pod-Point) but getting max charging power of 10kW.
Tried two charging stations at different locations and they both give the same charging power.
Is it the cable or is it something I'm doing wrong?

10kW is the maximum for an MG4. It supports 11kW but with losses you'll typically see 9.6-10kW at the car. Still better than the 6.6kW you'd get with 7kW charging.

10kW is the maximum for an MG4. It supports 11kW but with losses you'll typically see 9.6-10kW at the car. Still better than the 6.6kW you'd get with 7kW charging.

With a Trophy it is capable of 135kW max charge rate via CCS - however that is at optimum battery temperature and low state of charge so in the real world you'll get less, especially as it fills up. You should achieve 50kW no problem say until 70-80% then it will drop. I have seen 50kW at 80%, 30kW at 90%, for example.

Here are some photos of rate I got on a BP Pulse charger rated at 150kW but I never saw more than 87kW.

For a bit more information the difference is AC vs DC, upto 22kW chargers use AC which needs a charger/inverter in the car to convert to DC before charging the battery, in the case of the MG4 Trophy this is limited to 11kW (before losses) as mentioned.

50kW+ chargers are DC and don't rely on that circuitry, in this case the car supports upto 135kW (and some have seen more).

These 22kwhr charging stations are pointless in most cases. I really don’t know why they were introduced - unless the intention was to have more cars with onboard charging capabilities of 22kwhr. I think that the Renault Zoe is one of the only cars with an OBC capable of 22kwhr. The vast majority are 7 or 11kwhr maximum.

Going back to your "Inefficient charging cable" and later question about CCS, I hope you understand that CCS chargers have their own tethered cables? My apologies if you already know that but I wondered whether you were asking about using that "inefficient" cable with a CCS charger.
