Infotainment screen has gone blank

Thanks for replying mate, glad yours is back working anyway, at least that's good news.

My reason for looking at 2nd hand units is I've currently got a 21 plate Excite that's on lease and is going back in 3 weeks so won't have time to go to the Dealers for a fix, but if I send it back with a defective head unit then they'll sting me with the cost of a new one.

Only thing holding me back now is wether or not I'd need to get the 2nd hand unit reprogrammed in someway after fitting it or wether it's just plug and play.
Mines 21 plate and going back in march too. Surprised if they could charge you if it's just failed. Best to ask the dealer if it just plugs in. It took them (MGUK) 3 weeks to sent mine back....
 
I would imagine it just plugs in. But it would be pot luck if it works I guess. Worth a try. MGUK don't know the meaning of the words urgent or quick.

Was it the radio module that got removed and sent away? We're you still able to use the usb port for music and maps etc.?
 
It was the whole unit. The usb ports in the front didn't work but the back ones did. No android auto, usb, reversing sensors, camera or indicator noise!

Yeah I'll probably ring my local dealer tomorrow and see if they know or are willing to give me the answer. Pretty gutted tbh, got an Exclusive sat on the drive I've just bought to replace the Excite when it goes back, and now I'm just thinking "how long til that radio decides to give up" in that one too!
 
My unit was sent away and yes, now it is returned and working. No note of what they did to it though. Dealer is trying to charge £79 as MG say it was out of warranty and they fixed it as "good will", but they don't cover postage, removal and refitting! Even though it was defective for over a year!
I actually thought about buying another unit. The problem is it might have the same problem and then still need to be sent to MGUK for fixing. It would be good to know what they did but no details were supplied at all.
Hi AndyX how far out of date was your warranty? We have the same problem but need a new screen/kit. Our ‘good will’ request has been rejected but I’ve rejected their rejection, due to them setting a precedence with covering others. Considering this is such a common, known issue they should be covering all claims regardless of warranty. 🙄😬

Well according to MG it was only warranted for 3 years and it was just over this,! I pointed out I had been taking it in for about a year with similar problems, so it was a known issue! MgUK said they didn't have any records of my previous fault visits. The dealer did though. They did fix it FOC in the end but tried to get me to pay for postage and removal/refitting. However I refused. Since then it has worked ok but last few weeks the radio module disconnected error came back.

The car has now gone back to lease company and I have.a Hyundai Kona. It's amazing everything works perfectly on the Kona !

Ok thanks for the detail. We’re just 6 weeks over the warranty period. Glad you’ve found happiness with a new car…we’re still paying off the MG, so not impressed with paying for duff kit! 😩
 
My screen also has gone blank a few times, but this time it has given up completely. The reversing camera is still working and the MG logo comes on periodically, but then it goes blank again.

The only way mine got fixed was for dealer to send it back to MG. They did something with it, update or whatever, but no details were given.
 
Had this today…. I drove it, then got out of the car for a while but left it switched on, when I got back in the screen was black with MG logo.
I drove it home, switched/locked it off. All good when I restarted half an hour later.
I’ve had the car for a month….

Take a picture of the display showing any strange information. It took me a while for MG to acknowledge that I had a faulty module.

Weirdly today the front collision avoidance decided to alarm saying it isn't available for no apparent reason. So they will be looking at that too.

Was it a bright sunny day with the sun low ? This can happen when the camera is blinded by the sun.
