Insurance , but not what you think?

Had to re-insure the car recently and was looking through all the options. Came across one companies site and in its generalities it mentioned that if you have an EVSE attached to your property you should inform your house insurer and have it on their files, they may want to see all the certification to verify its compatibility and continue cover without any future possible claim problems. Up until now I was not aware of this possible oversight! Not sure if this will increase costs , might be down to the individual company concerned.

I'm with LV= and they cover the EVSE along with the car.

If it's pertinent, required information then insurers (in the UK at least) must ask the question prior to quoting/starting cover ... they can't come along later and say "Oh that's critical information and you didn't tell us".

I'm with Aviva Zero and they cover the EVSE too although in the case of a claim they may ask for the instillation certificate.

Had a quick look through both policies , car and house ,with the same provider , and neither mention the EVSE. I would have thought the house policy would have the most to lose as its wired into the house electrical system and any potential damage would mainly be contained /started thereabouts. Tricky? The agent knows we have an electric car but have never asked regarding the house insurance, and I have not informed them about the EVSE.?? Ignorance is bliss or a get out clause , decisions decisions????

Do insurers also ask about other high current devices in the home such as electric ovens, power showers etc? I know EVSE's draw high currents for longer periods, but they do have safety features installed. There was a spate of fires caused by tumble dryers a few years ago but there isn't a separate clause for those as far as I am aware.

Check the small print of your policies to see if EVSE's are listed as an exception or special case.
