Insurance Question

Nothing on LV yet. :(
I know, I am with LV for my i3 - I'm going to give them the boot I think. Getting v cheap quote from Admiral and interestingly it was much cheaper on confused.com than it was with compare the meerkat, £100 dearer quote for the same policy. Strange.

I've just run a dummy quote using one of the review vehicle VRMs. As I've had a company car for the past 12 years, and my last incident was May 2019 (non-fault), I selected 3 years NCD. Quotes are coming out at around £440 on Meerkat.

Pretty much the same as me (11 years).

Does anyone know of an insurance company that would count this towards a NCD?

My company will give out factual letters re. driving history when a company car employee leaves their employ. Not sure which insurers take these into account though.

Quotes are much more than expected. Used Compare the Market and Moneysupermarket and both are coming back double what we currently pay for our Ioniq 5!! The MG is worth £20k less and much lower insurance group.

Insurance quotes aren't just informed by insurance group; factors such as spare parts availablity, NCAP test score, driver profile/demographic and prior mendability of a brands vehicles all play a role in the quotes they give.

Ditto - 70% more than our BMW 328i. :-/ £100 more than a ZS EV with the same provider, Admiral.

Edit: Cupra Born is half the price of the MG4 for us.

MG will not score well on either the (lack of) NCAP rating or prior mendability (both for being slow in getting parts and the higher tendancy to write off EVs).

My quotes for the MG4 were much less than expected. I am paying £445 annually for my BMW i3 and the MG4 will be £250, same drivers, same mileage, same NCD. My MG4 will also have no NCAP rating and same parts availability/risk of write off

Just tried using all the same details, just changing the car:
MG4 £410
KIA Soul £314
Cupra Born V1 £286

Considering the latter two are more expensive new, it's surprising the MG is 30-40% more expensive on insurance

Not for me, MG4 £236.62, Cupra Born £232.77 and Kia Soul £219.99 when I got a quick comparison for me just now

It seems that the comparison sites aren't good for this. My best for the MG4 SE SR on the Meerkat was £383 out of 8 quotes, but for an MG5 LR was £189 (most £220) out of 73 quotes.

thought I'd give it a go for the mg4 - wished I hadn't - £454 - ah well, what I save on tax will go on insurance by the look of things...

A lot of insurance companies won't have the MG4 on their systems yet so you're getting less quotes and therefore higher prices. Just wait a few weeks and all will be good.
thanks, I will. I'm not expecting mine any time before Christmas anyway... I'm one of those 'glass half empty' types :)

You could take a higher price to change, if your car is due to be delivered this week as obviously you'll need insurance cover.

Make use of the minimum 14 day cooling off period should you find a cheaper policy shortly there after.

Use the link for insurance in money saving expert should you require gap insurance. I got 30% off my last cover which was far cheaper than the policy the dealer offered.
