iSmart App Pixel 8 problem. QR scanner closing for binding. Is there a manual way to bind?

I'm having a problem with my Pixel 8 when trying to bind the iSmart app. The QR scanner opens and immediately closes. I've factory reset and wiped the phone and only installed the iSmart app back on to try and fix it, but it's doing the same. I'm not sure if it's a phone issue or the app?
Is there a way to manually enter the vehicle identification to bind the app?
Any other pixel 8 users with the current updates as of 10/12/2024 having this issue?

There are two QR codes. One downloads the app the second is used to bind the car.

Yes I know. The app itself is the problem, even if it's not pointing at anything it closes the scanner immediately. Seems to be a compatibility issue with Pixel 8 phone maybe?? I was hoping someone may know a way to manually enter the binding information. I'm a bit stuck otherwise.

I've sent an email to the support link in the app but can't see any specific bug reporting mechanism

Do you bind the car before or it's the first time ?

What I do when my Pixel 8 Pro doesn't read the QR Code : I choose "connect to account" in the bottom of the QR code and manually tape mail or phone number and password directly from screen.

I used your workaround. Your idea of using another phone was a good idea. I downloaded the app and logged in to my account on it. Bound the account with its (working!) QR scanner. Uninstalled the app and then logged in on my Pixel 8 and it worked! Yay!

From reading another thread re. Pixel 9 Pro Fold ... it seems the issue is the latest Android 15 security drop (update) that is causing the problem. i.e. something in the iSmart app code for accessing the camera is incompatible with the latest update.

Yes, it's an issue with the App. We await an App software 'patch' update to enable Pixel 8 and Pixel 9 users (incidentally whose cameras work with all other Apps). There is a solution however, to bind your account to the car. Note you are not binding the phone, you are binding the account. Get another device, tablet or another phone, log in to your account and use that device's camera to scan the QR code, then continue with setup. Once it's bound, go back onto your Pixel and log into your account and hey presto, your account, your Pixel and your car all work

Just taken delivery of my second MG4 and had the same problem as I've recently switched from iPhone to Pixel 8. Fortunately, I still have the iPhone, so will try to bind with that.
