I had a service booked tomorrow for my MG5 at Jermyn Motors Eastbourne, from whom I bought the car.
Just got a call saying I will have to go to Brighton or Tunbridge Wells as MG have disenfranchised Jermyn Motors Eastbourne.
Does anyone know :
1) Why this has happened?
2) Do I really have to drive long distances to get the service to maintain my warranty?

Re 2, strictly speaking other garages should be able to do that. I know Cleevely, not too far from me, says

"We can carry out routine servicing, as per manufacturers' specific service intervals, for all makes and models, without affecting your vehicle's warranty."

from Electric Vehicle Servicing | EV Servicing | Cleevely Electric Vehicles

However, I don't think there are that many garages like them who are confident servicing EVs. Might be worth a quick search though. Also not sure if they can do software updates.

Re 1 not sure, first guess would be something commercial i.e. they're not selling enough for MG's liking

Further on your first question:

From information given to me by my dealer (regrettably no longer in existence, not been disenfranchised) MG insist on certain "features" being present in dealers' showrooms. e.g., the floor must be tiled in MG Red, apparently, whatever the cost to the dealer!

I suspect your local dealer decided, quite reasonably, that the cost of this, and other required changes, was just not worth it,

You can try this website to find an independent garage, although it would be worth checking that they can service an EV.

You will lose the MG Assist though.

I've never worried about dealer distance.

I mean, as long as you don't have a lot of warranty issues, a trip out once a year is no sweat is it?

Make a day of it at the dealer destination.

I've recently changed to a dealer for my MG, 45 minutes away because the one 20 minutes away is awful.

I once owned a Monaro VXR500 and the annual service was a round trip of 202 miles!

Yes, I could have used the local Vauxhall dealer but preferred to have it looked after by a specialist.

It seems that Birchwood MG Eastbourne have the franchise now. Shame because the Seaford service centre was very handy for me.
Thanks for your info. I have just booked a service with Birchwood. They were surprised to hear I had been told to go to Brighton or Tonbridge Wells.

Now I need to chase Jermyn for the monthly payments made over the lasr year for servicing.

Hi. This was the email I received from pevencey/eastborne MG where I have had my 5 serviced. I’ll have to use Brighton now as it’s the closest alternative.

Thanks for responding. Since I posted I have booked with Birchwood who have taken over the Eastbourne MG dealership. If you can't find a number for Birchwood MG, ring the one for Birchwood Skoda.

My dealership lost the right to sell new MG but the service side they are still doing.
