MG ZS service- being ripped off?

Hi everyone - a note of caution: It might be worth checking that you actually have AA cover!
I have had my MG4 serviced by a main dealer for two years and this year while looking at the AA new breakdown cover card, I questioned if I needed to log my details with the AA so (after looking at the MG and AA websites) I called the number on the card. The person who answered told me that on their records, my AA membership lapsed at the end of 2023!
Glad I found that out from the comfort of my own home and not on a motorway hard shoulder.
He asked if my car had been serviced by an MG dealer and when I said yes he said I should check this with MG.
I returned to the dealer and after a bit of head scratching it turns out that neither last year's service or this one had been logged by the dealer in a certain part of the MG website (although all the service details were correct) and therefore my cover had lapsed. I have been assured by the dealer this has now been corrected but I will be checking again with the AA in the New Year.
I had exactly the same problem and after many calls between the dealer and me and the AA and me without a resolution I lost faith, just went bought AA cover myself and chalked it up to the poor service offered by MG and the bargain bucket cost of the vehicle.

So experience is not as uncommon as I thought. And without the AA cover, the servicing costs would be outrageous for such a small amount of work and all but zero parts - indeed more expensive than servicing my wife's petrol 208 with the oil, filter changes etc.

In the New Year I will check that my cover has been extended following the recent service.

paid £275 up front for 3 years servicing and MOTs are free for as long as I own the car

I cannot say how prevalent it is, I just found the process was loaded with pitfalls that made renewing the roadside assistance quite difficult. For example, if you didn’t mention it when booking the service then it ‘could not’ be done retrospectively.

That said though, we also have another non-MG vehicle which is serviced by the same dealership so it may just be the dealership and not MG.

I have just had my 5th service and MOT and the total bill was £433.85, inc vat.
Listed service cost was £295 plus vat. I asked for both key batteries to be replaced and opted to pay for courtesy car insurance at £25. (Otherwise £1000 excess!)
Battery SOH is 90%. Car has done 24269 miles.
Charged to 100% most of the time at 7kW, 80% when on rapid.
Advised there is a recall for the charge flap and MG logo thingy, not done today as no parts.

My car is a MK1. From what the service man said, it is both the part of the front grille that moves upwards, and the MG logo with the pulsating light. He said some wiring (of that mechanism) has been damaged on some cars. I assume the repair is free, but they hadn't got the parts.

I haven't had to service mine yet, but I thought EVs were minimal servicing costs, supposedly one of the reasons for buying. I paid less than £400 to get my Mercedes E220D Convertible serviced with oil and filters etc.
it depends on mileage and on which service it is, some are more expensive than others. Option is to get a service plan and pay £20 or so per month to cover the next 4-5 years (beats inflation)

I do think £400 is excessive, but Waylands are that sort of agent. The place I bought my car from (new) did not offer any service plan. However, I think they do all the correct work and MOT is included.

You can check online on MG website for the quote and places that service MG cars and they should all provide service plans...

Yes but this was 5 years ago and the agency was removed from them by MG because they could not afford the ‘market presence’ that MG wanted.

Thanks for that info. I just came on here to find out about the ‘door and light’ recall the dealer just told me about but didn’t know what it meant. My charge door doesn’t lock any more so hopefully it will fix that.
