Hi all,

Just bought a used MG5 LR, '71 plate (October registered) with 28,000 miles. I've covered a few trips around town but am driving around 300 miles from Devon to Doncaster this weekend, planning to stick at 70mph as much as possible Obviously I'm going to need to charge about halfway. What sort of charging speed can I expect? And what would the realistic range be for this type of journey? Thanks!

On a 100kW+ charger you should be able to charge to 80% in 45 minutes. No point in going to 100% as the charge speed drops off and it is quicker to make a subsequent splash and dash.

I'd work on 200 miles, at motorway speed. You'd probably get nearer to 240 miles at 60mph but you are going to have to charge once, either way, so I suppose it depends on how important the half hour saved on the journey is worth more than the extra charging cost.

The last few years, or even more, whatever speed I travel at the max average speed I seem to get on motorway journeys is around 55mph so save your electrons, sit back, relax enjoy the journey and set the cruise to 65.

For those new to the MG the speedo is very accurate, so when it says 70 it means 70, unlike most cars I've ever had. On previous vehicles I could set the cruise at 80 and know it's only really doing about 73.

This is amongst the the best I achieved, cruising at 65 motorway virtually all the way, and note the outside temperature - ideal.

I don’t think I’ve ever seen the average speed over 50 in my 5

Nor me. Mind you, being over 50 miles from the nearest motorway helps.
But at least you will get better economy.
Being in Leeds I am just a few miles from the A1/M1 north and south and the M62 for east and west. So wherever in the country I go it can be more or less motorway all the way if I want (apart from Norfolk !)

I've had my FL for about a year and a half and what I've come to learn is to find places that I like to stop and there is something to do and charge up there. Realistically I don't often use much more than 50% of the battery before wanting to stretch my legs and have a comfort break.

Ditto,

2 hours max, roughly 120 to 130 miles, charge, coffee and comfort break in the half hour it takes to recover the miles used...

civilised, I call it.
