My car is in a bodyshop for repairs after a minor accident and has been there for two weeks.
The mechanic has left the key in the car over that period.
Now, when he tries to move the car, it "bongs" repeatedly ans shows "place key in backup position".
The car will not go into "Ready" mode.
Anyone know anything about this?

That did not work.
Turns out that the key had not been removed from the car for a considerable period and the immobiliser had locked on. Removing the key from the locality of the car allowed the immobiliser to reset and it all returned to normal.
The curious thing is that whilst the car was not responding the 12V battery had been disconnected then reconnected to try to get it all to work and it made no difference.
Lesson learnt is to remove key from car!

Thanks for the “top tip”.
We all know that there is a start up sequence that the car likes and dislikes ? if it conducted out of order.
This maybe a similar situation ??.
E.G. - The car is drawing power from the 12 volt battery, this energises the modules.
One will be these will be one that recognises the fob when it is in range of the car etc.
As in this case, the fob was already in the car before the 12 volt battery was connected.
When the power was restored, the fob was already in the cabin.
Therefore the sequence has been switched and is does not like it ?.
Remove the fob out of range of the car and bingo, now it is happy ?.
Only a theory here of course, but sounds plausible ??.
