Lane Assist Trying To Kill Me!

No, I am OK with it. Slight wobble and a beep, no problem. People/drivers think it is just going to drive you off the road. Not true, lots of cars have same feed to drivers.

Would you consider a tug so strong as to take you over the centre line and towards an oncoming truck to be reasonable? My car has done that several times. It's massive overreach by the LKA.

Hello the main problem with the lka is that the steering wheel is too hard and it takes control of us and when it makes a mistake but it can send us where we don't want to go.

My MG is 7 months old 11000k had1st service no updates as I know of and my LKA movement at the wheel is very slight nothing like some people describe.

When we talk about lka I'm talking about elk the problem presents itself on luxury and not on standards for my part.

Indeed on the luxury the elk poses a problem. As well as maintaining the lane when driving where there is a lot of jerking in the steering wheel.

We have an MG4 basic model, and neither of us like LKA even on minimum setting.
Worring thing is when set to audio signal only, we still get annoying tugs on the wheel.
I'm used to LKA with my Aussie version of the opal wagon, on well marked roads it is quite subtle, it doesn't jerk.
But it too is dangerous on narrow unmarked country lanes.
The gravel on the sides of our roads is made up of little round balls. It's like driving on marbles!
If you swerve suddenly, you'll be going sideways. And the LKA tries to throw you off into it.

Where I live it goes off every day about 200 metres down the lane. I hate it. I end up trying to turn it off driving around a hairpin bend. Thats the dangerous bit. My only cure at the moment is to try and remember to turn it off before i leave the driveway. Political parties need to pick up on this - mandatory lka needs to be banned.

Do what some others have done and change the voice greeting to "Switch off LKA"

Don't worry the lka will be updated by the end of the year ?

Personally I don’t think mg4 lka is bad (like this article says). I just think lka should be optional on all cars ! It seems to me its useful for some owners, and not for others. Should not be mandatory.

I've been driving my MG4 for 15 months now, and the LKA is a constant irritation to me and both my daughters, who borrow the car occasionally. Can I be cheeky and ask that somebody bumps the comment with instructions on how to verbally instruct the car to "switch off LKA"? We don't use the voice functionality at all atm. I wouldn't know where to start, and the MG user handbook is pretty useless on all fronts.

Thanks in advance!

Has any one else seen this from Which today.

"Which? car testing reveals serious concerns with MG4's lane assist technology

Which? lab technicians report concerning behaviour caused by the popular family car's lane assistance and departure-warning technology
During the course of testing the MG4 (a popular electric car from MG), we encountered a potentially significant issue relating to the car’s lane-assist system, which is designed to keep the car in lane.

Specifically, we noticed that:

  • the lane-assist system twice pulled the car onto the wrong side of the road
  • in another incident on a narrower country road, the lane-assist system steered the MG4 towards an oncoming vehicle
  • the issues couldn’t be repeated in subsequent tests, but were significant enough for us to investigate further
  • in all cases, visibility was good and the wider road had a clearly defined centre line, while the country road had a clearly defined edge line.
MG says it has developed an improved calibration of the advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS), which will soon be approved and rolled out as a software update"

All very interesting, hopefully the clout of WHICH may help, I absolutely hate the LKA.

What we experienced

During tests of the MG4 on public roads, our lab testers noticed unusual behaviour with its lane-departure warning and lane-keep assistance systems.

Today? That's been posted about several times already, over several days. ;)
It only landed in my inbox today, it's definitely a good leap forward, as I'm considering swapping to a different make after only 8 months, if I forget to disable it then the sudden pulling of the steering is still scary, we live in a remote area with narrow lanes LKA loves tugging at both sides of the road ??

There are clearly calibration differences because the experience is so variable.

Releasing a software update does SFA since you can't convince dealers to actually do it unless you pay a motza - else you have to wait for the 2 year/40,000 km scheduled service.

Why wouldn’t it be warranty so just book in and no charge for a factory fix isn’t the 7 year warranty a selling point.

Why wouldn’t it be warranty
What evidence do we have to convince a dealer / MG Australia that it's a warranty issue? There will be nothing in the car's logs indicating a fault. It's an intermittent issue so a dealer service test drive is unlikely to yield any joy.

Warranty claims like this will be denied/refused.
