When travelling to Edinburgh on the M90 near the turn off for Kinross B977 I lose my cruise control and collision warning. This has happened on the last 6 journeys whether travelling north or south. The car resets itself after about 2mls. The loss seems to coincide with passing a phone / communication mast located about 100yds from the motorway. Just wondered if anyone else had a similar experience?.

Graham

What do you mean by "lose"? I assume you mean the cruise control drops out and fails to maintain the selected speed.? How do you know the collision warning has failed?
Are the roads dry and not oily?
Most cruise controls and stability controls are shut off if one of the wheeks is turning at a different speed than the others - this is because the system thinks the car is skidding.

There are two locations near my house, both very close to phone masts, where the infotainment either mutes or switches from normal audio to voice control audio depending on which direction I am travelling. There is also a small roundabout on Sandy Lane in Worksop where the infotainment system will stutter and, unless I drive through quickly, will completely reset. It always happens at these locations and nowhere else so I think the infotainment system is very sensitive to outside radio signals.

Infotainment being interrupted is one thing, but car control issues are quite another, much more serious.

is this happening with DAB radio only?

No it’s DAB, FM, CarPlay etc.

It’s a possible explanation for the OP’s issue as the infotainment system is where all the vehicle settings are adjusted so they are linked. To be honest though I don’t see any loss of ADAS as serious. ACC switching off temporarily is annoying but not dangerous. Collision warning is additional to the driver’s eyes and doesn’t even exist on many cars. So not having them isn’t serious but it is annoying.

Hi Graham. This also happened to me yesterday morning (just around 10am) going north on the M90 just after the Kinross turn off and again a couple of miles further on. It also happened a couple of weeks ago one evening probably at the same locations but it was dark and I couldn't be certain they were exactly the same. On the way back south I was primed for it - as it's quite a scary moment when it happens as the power suddenly drops off when your at high speed! - but it never happened. I did notice that at the second location there's a highways sensor device(?) on a mast at the side of the carriageway and I wondered if it was interfering with the camera or radar - probably the latter. I couldn't see anything at the roadside for the first location.
At least I'm not the only one who thought his car was going crazy!

I don’t know if this is the case here but on my previous car,it had this issue whereby the front radar will get disabled most of the times when it is raining heavily. When this happens, acc and front collision will be also disabled as both this functions depends on the radar to be working. Maybe this is the issue?

My old Lexus RX450H used to drop out of ACC when the wipers went onto high speed, this was a "safety feature" according to Lexus.

Nope. Dry on Sunday. And I think it's the camera that shuts down the ACC in heavy rain. I had that on my previous car - a Mokka-e.

Yes the cruise control drops out, the collision warning shows as an alarm on the screen. There is nothing wrong with a car and this only occurs at a specific point on the motorway. I notice someone else has experienced the same problem at the same location.

Not near anything that might jam or interfere with the cars the radar is it (Like say a military base or maybe other radar installation)

Did once have the Hyundai Ioniq I used to have throw up a message saying something about the forward facing radar being blocked/jammed.

Thanks for your reply Brian will continue to monitor and try to identify the cause. Because it's happening at specific locations I'm sure it's not the car.

There used to be a listening station a few miles away but it is no longer in use

Or airport radar?

Graham. I've been studying Google Street View but can't find the roadside sensor I mentioned in my post - of course, it may have been installed since Google photographed the road. However, I did notice a couple of small aluminium or galvanised steel roadside boxes on both sides of the motorway that may contain sensors or transmitting devices and which may be the source of the interference. It's unlikely I'll be on that part of the M90 for a few weeks so I can't be of any help in the short term. Brian

I have had the same drop out, thought it was due to dirt on radar sensor OR cameras on most of occasions it has happened on Motoway roads, so pulled of motorway onto slip road and cleaned cameras and radar sensor and was fine for a short while BUT after several times of cleaning cycle, just switch car
off and back on and it's all ok. Most of this has happened in winter conditions so maybe inside camera by the mirror misting up?

The radio and Apple Carplay seem to be susceptible to extenal electronic signals. My remote garage door opener when activated (attached to the dashboard with bluetac) sometimes mutes the radio/music for about 30 seconds. Occasionally it causes a phone call to be made on my mobile via Apple Carplay!

I have the same problem on the M25 near Reigate. Not every time and not the same location but the same stretch of motorway. Cruise control and collision warning etc stop working.
Also only going westbound so I assume there is something near the westbound side causing it. Puzzled why the location isn't the same - usually somewhere between the motorway exit and entrance slip.
Unfortunately it doesn't reset until I turn the power off.

Have a read through this thread Mg ZS Pilot Errors could be the problem you are experiencing. I had the firmware update done, I still occasionally get the dreaded pilot errors but not as many as I was getting before the update. Sometimes it will clear itself, other times I have to pull over, put into park then back into drive to clear the error,

Thanks Craig. I'd read this post before I responded to Graham's original post. Useful stuff but Graham's and my experiences seem to be almost certainly location specific. I've never had an instance anywhere else apart from the 2 locations I mention. And the weather was clear, dry and warm; and I'd been driving for about 40 minutes. But any contributions to help solving the problem are always welcome.
