Loss of power due to empty battery / uphill driving / acceleration / overtaking

As an experiment I rang round 10 UK dealers. None of them were aware of any updates. None of them were aware of any loss of acceleration issues. In fact… none of them were aware of anything and couldn’t seem to answer any questions I had. I’m a potential buyer but I’m now starting to have considerable doubts. Seems like they haven’t much clue.

"None of them were aware"... or none of them were able to accept that there is an issue and an update is just not available in the UK yet . Perhaps i'm just being cynical...

Worth saying that 95% of the car is great. If this update gets sorted (and it works as described elsewhere in this forum) then I wouldn't hesitate to recommend the car to everyone!

The issue is being rectified in Australia, New Zealand, and the EU etc. By installing update PD 052.

In addition have a look at yesterday’s post by Lollipopman in which he includes a very negative response from MG UK

The issue is being rectified in Australia, New Zealand, and the EU etc. By installing update PD 052.

Can I make a suggestion. Go to MG Motors UK YouTube page and start highlighting the issue everywhere you can in the comments sections. Any video that is getting thousands of views … leave a comment highlighting the loss in power issue and the fact MG UK or currently not acknowledging the issue, despite EU customers already getting an update. The only way they’ll bother to respond quickly is if they think it might damage sales. Any other social media promotion MG UK do …. If you can leave negative comments… do!!

I've got a car since 23.rd January in this year, and I've noticed exactly the same issues that you and other members are mentioned.
I'm really worried, as the car feel lije and old petrol automatic, not like a hybrid...

Nein, ich komme aus Deutschland und musste dem Autohaus selbst mitteilen, dass es ein Update gibt. Von alleine hätten sie mich nicht kontaktiert.

Heute große Tour Deutschland-Frankreich-Deutschland, knapp über 500km. Spritverbrauch 8,1L/100km viel Autobahn, teilweise 170km/h. Viel mit ACC bei 135km/h, da hat sich die Batterie immer nur bis auf 2 Bar entleert, damit noch Beschleunigung möglich war. Bei 135km/h mit ACC war die Drehzahl 3200U/min, kurz ging es hoch auf 4000U/min, aber nur kurz. Reserven hatte das Auto immer.

bei 135km/h mit ACC lag der Verbrauch bei 6,7L/100km

No, I'm from Germany and I had to tell the car dealership myself that there was an update. They wouldn't have contacted me on their own.

Today, a big tour Germany-France-Germany, just over 500km. Fuel consumption 8.1L/100km lots of motorways, sometimes at 170km/h. A lot with ACC at 135km/h, the battery only ever drained to 2 bars so that acceleration was still possible. At 135km/h with ACC, the speed was 3200rpm, briefly it went up to 4000rpm, but only briefly. The car always had reserves. Tomorrow I'm going to the mountains, so I'll see how it goes with longer climbs.

at 135km/h with ACC the consumption was 6.7L/100km

I've noticed my battery is never exceed the half mark, so I cant charge it up fully.... Fuel consumption with "pensioner" driving style is 6.8 L/100km, that is 42 UK mpg, with only 30-35 mph and many ACC in the town to keep the constant speed. I feel like I've some fault, as this is not how the normal hybrid should work, especially with mainly town driving.
What do you think?
The software update will cure this issues?

Has your multimedia system been updated to a new version? If it didn’t previously have an equalizer, does it include one now?

As these figures are on the photos more like a proper hybrid car....
I've got mine just 3 days ago, on the 24rd January, but I've noticed all the issues that other members posted here, including the high rev on incline, and the bad fuel consumption.
Currently I'm getting 41 UK mpg, with 95% city driving, without exceeding the national speed limit, as 30mph and 40mph....

You consume quite a lot if you only drive in town. Try driving in town without ACC. ACC is actually only for the motorway. My lowest consumption on country roads and towns was 4.9L/100km
Unfortunately, I cannot say whether the car recuperates with ACC when it slows down or whether it only uses the engine brake and brakes in the last few meters before reaching

New member here.I currently drive a mk4 Honda Jazz hybrid and in winter around a hilly Huddersfield I am getting just over 40mpg around town. In summer I get 60+ around town. Your low mpg figures are almost certainly due to the lower temperatures. Friends with Toyota and Renault hybrids have the same drop.That’s a downside of e-hybrids,batteries don’t like cold. Just ask any EV owner!
I’ve just ordered a new trophy ZS hybrid+ to replace it and I expect to get similar variation. I’ll hopefully enjoy the new car as much as the Jazz. I’d probably have had another but the spec to get anywhere near the ZS is several thousand more and only 3 yr warranty.Plus Perrys MG Huddersfield offer the Affinity discount scheme to retired NHS staff ( and others) so getting new one for £22k! So it was a no brainer.
Hopefully I won’t have any of the problems some are reporting!

Honestly you will have the same problems if you do insist that all Software updates are installed in your new car before you leave the showroom.PD052 to be precise.This software is available in EU , Ireland and other countries around the world.MG UK have admitted that there is an update available,by admitting that owners should log their interest in getting the update with their dealerships.MG UK admitted they don't know when it will be rolled out in the UK though.The update will make a big difference to the overall performance of the car

Amazing though that the update was released in Australia and New Zealand first.The loss of power was first flagged in these countries.I can assure that the update is worth getting,check it out for your self.

Auto Tester tzzzzzz. 15 seconds for an overtaking maneuver as described in the article is very long and of course there can't be any oncoming traffic and there must not be any incline, that's very unrealistic.

Thank you for contacting MG Motor UK Ltd. and I am sorry to learn that your MGZS is not meeting with your expectations.

I have received confirmation that this update is indeed available to all dealerships.

It will bring the car back into line for what it should be, however, there will always be a certain amount of high revs when accelerating uphill.

This will though change the parameters slightly.

I have also emailed the dealership, but if you can contact them and refer them to this email as well, we can make sure they are fully aware of what is required.

In a way, it makes sense - Europe is currently in winter, and in most regions(maybe except the southern tip of Spain), the cars use their petrol engine a lot more to heat the cabin, so in essence battery charge rarely - or at least to a much lesser degree - gets the chance to drop charge below a critical level.

I also wonder whether Australia and New Zealand get a slightly different tune altogether, given the ZS is rated with 15kW more there, or that is because of different testing cycles (or just marketing?)

But alas the car has been no better since. If anything it’s worse.
