ok i’m an old fogey, new owner -work/drive to London each day and looked at bmw, vw, audi and merc but this beats them all. The cruise, auto distance, sound system, blind spot detection, lane control, front view, smoothness and no need for petrol … for the price beats all. Well done you Chinese and Scandinavian masters.

Very nice to see a positive post.

i have read this forum and listened to a couple of podcasts and it seems quite a few are intent on moaning about the car. i can also say the latest software update has been positive in that it has addressed quite a few of the ‘complaints’… eg locking in and shortcuts to climate control. it seems that MG higher bods are listening and I think deserve a decent share of the market. The only thing I would perhaps be slightly critical of is the rear boot look and long delivery expectation. My car is replacing a 10 year old diesel which strangely probably does better 50 mpg but also needs to pay the ULEZ fee. However I still love this MG4 which is roomy, classy and even has heated seats….

Yep its a breeze around London, We work in Westminster so the savings in Congestion Charge and Discounted Parking are brilliant.

Just the savings on driving a diesel in and parking a few times a week can pay for the car.
I was aware of no congestion charge but not discounted parking. What is the deal on that?

@Stageshoot I have followed your posts on here and SpeakEV with interest. I doubt anyone in the UK has more real world EV experience than you (MG4, EV6, Kona, M3 etc.), For those that have been discouraged by some of the negative posts about the MG4 and are perhaps nervous about the switch can you provide your assessment in context?

I'm not expecting you to wax lyrical but in your view how does the MG4 compare to other cars you have lived with bearing in mind the cost for each?

Thanks

There seems to have been a general build up of whinging about all new cars recently, personally I think its a combination of people getting used to new tech a bit of buyers remorse due to the price and the general fact that all negativity is amplified on forums and social media. (Along with the Chinese so its crap and they are horrible people who kill puppies brigade)

As for the MG4

Its a brilliant well built car.. (I wont even add in "For The Price"). as its just a good car

Price wise its roughly what the Launch Kona 64 PSE cost in Sept 18, (Thats now £39k)

Yes there are a few software issues, its like they looked at things like the Traffic Recognition in the Tesla and said to a software co build me that right now.. It looks ok but really is nothing more than glossy packaging..

But the actual things that make a good car..

Build (No Bad Panel Gaps all seems solid no rattles)
Safety (Blind Spot Assist,Cameras etc etc)
Speed (Fast as the Kona or EV6 Air)

Economy is about 0.7 Miles per Kwh down on the Kona, and about the same as the EV6, so in Winter we are getting an easy 220 in summer imagine that will be up to 260-270

So far had no issues with scheduled charging etc, its just worked which is great,..

No Oil Leaks or Bulges with mine and it came with the R30 software, so doubt it will need to go back in till its 15k service about May.

Would have like Wireless Carplay of course, I tried one of the little CarLinkit things but found it unstable so went back to wired.

And Most Most important of all. SWMBO likes it so not getting it in the neck every time she drives it, unlike the Model 3 we had

Compared to our Other EVs..

BMW i3 was the biggest smile factor
Renualt Zoe was the best on the pocket (£19k battery owned) Wish those days were still here
Kona was the best general car/ev we have had (Built Like a Tank with super range) but boring
Telsa Model 3 Best Tech, but a lousy car
Kia EV6 (Nice Big Boat) Great Fast Charging, but underwhelming otherwise

MG4.. OK in all areas, not stand out anywhere, except the fact it does not really fall below average in any of them. Its just a good nice looking car that does (Mostly) what it says on the tin.

Park in any pay and display bay in Westminster, Pay for 10mins (81p) and you can stay for 4 hours. Done through the Ringo app as normal Pay and Display.. You dont need to register it as an EV they pick it up from your number plate.

Big saving as its £22 for 4 hours in a Petrol and £30+ in a diesel..

Nice to hear about a happy owner. I’ve also had some of the same cars as you over the Years.

Thank you very much @Stageshoot. I know you have more real-world experience on motorways, city driving and everything in between than most commentators. You don't have sponsors or subscribers to appeal to or any other obvious bias so I value your opinion.

I'm still awaiting delivery of my '4' and whilst there have been some frankly unacceptable issues with early models, it does seem that most are getting fixed (same thing happened with the ZS when that was released) and when they are the car will be as good or better than many of the alternatives.

I would agree with the +ve thoughts no previous EV experience. My previous car was a VW golf GTi Mk7 from new.
So far I've found the MG4 a joy/fun to drive, turned of the bits of extra tech I feel interfere. I have the bulge but it doesn't interfere with my enjoyment, I'm keeping an eye on any movement, my dealers view is MG uk's response is a bit substandard and I would agree but can't get upset about it.
No oil leak 1600 miles in.
One long (320 mile round trip), the rapid charge completed in the time it took me to take a pee, grab a drink and snack, literally no waiting at the car. A few decent length trips aroun 200 miles and these are a pleasure, quiet and smooth.

That's good to know thanks. My Mrs bought me a "best walks in london" book for Xmas so planning to drive in a lot more.

I'm glad you're enjoying the car! I'm also looking forward to mine, but I still have to white till August for it to get here. Mine will be in Camden Grey and also Trophy (Andes Grey / Luxury in Germany).

It's refreshing to see a positive post!
August. Goodness me that is a long time. I ordered mine on 27/12 and was told 16 weeks lead time which is bad enough. Any idea why August?

I had the option to pay 2000€ and get it in a few weeks or pay nothing and get it in 9 months.
I opted for the latter option due to the fact that the lease on my Zoe runs out in September so I can have a buffer.

At the risk of going off topic, what didn't you like about the 3 ? Hard to find a Tesla owner who doesn't claim that their car is simply perfect, so I'm intrigued ;)

It was ok with me tainted a bit as Tesla delivery centre hid damage on collection and refused to help. After that we had rear lights full of water a failed centre screen and massive phantom breaking problems. I could have lived with it for the year. But Vicky hated it with a passion. She detested the driving position the centre screen and just thought it was the devils spawn so for a peaceful life got rid of it after 6 months and 20k miles
