Things I love (or don’t) about my new MG4 – very subjective!

Yes, I bought an 8-metre granny cable. I have an Untethered Ohme charger on order from Octopus, and already have a Type 2 cable to use with it.

I bought a 15-metre extension cable, which may sound like overkill, but I want to be sure that if I'm staying with friends and need to use their home electricity, I can reach a plug safely. I also (paranoia) carry both the granny cable and the extension lead if I'm going on a long journey and relying on public chargers. It's kind of a substitute for the can of petrol in the boot. It wouldn't be much use if I got into trouble on a motorway a long way from the next exit, but anywhere near civilisation and finding a 13A plug and a bit of patience could be a lifesaver.

Great that you got a 4 metre cable... not what I got!

I have taken off the 3rd headrest.

Change the tyres? I've just got 4 brand-new ones!

Yes, I'd figured out the compensation of the temp reading...
Would be changing them for cross climates anyway, especially on rwd

I like my MG4 but there’s one thing that really irritates me.

For all systems to work properly you need to follow a fixed routine in a fixed order and timing also seems to be an important factor.

What happens to often is that the airconditioning (both heating and cooling) and/ or demisting of the front windscreen wont’t work if there’s to much time between unlocking the car and actually sit behind the wheel and activating the car.

So now when doing groceries I unlock the car, put my groceries in the car, lock and unlock the car and then I’m off.

I also no longer unlock the car from a distance, I just unlock right before I enter the vehicle.

Apart from that I am happy with the MG4, really love how it drives ?

I have also had my mg4 xpower a week and agree with your GREAT list. A for you MEH list 1) I rather like the functionally styled wheel shape. 4) if you tap on the small home screen nav box it goes full screen! You ca’t get any bigger than that. You can also have a small one in front of driver. 5) side camera view to check for cyclists? 6) i just bought a box off amazon to make carplay wireless (also does netflix etc) 9) i customised mine to say greetings ‘my name’
LKA works fine for me. As does TJA, ACC, Intelligent speed limiting.

Any chance of a link? A widget that does the job competently sounds like a good idea to me!

My first car was a Maestro. Steering wheel was round, so not sure what you mean by this. Although only two spokes like the MG4, but it was very offset spokes compared with the MG4. I'm used to weird steering wheels as my Land Rover has a two spoke steering wheel. I do wonder if I stand on the brakes whether I would bend the steering wheel :ROFLMAO:

I think he meant the Austin Allegro (the Maestro's notorious predecessor)!

3 Sometimes, the Radio volume randomly fluctuates up and down – not been able to pin down why or when, is there a setting for Dynamic Volume that I’ve missed

I've also noticed that whenever I enter a 20mph area the car will ping, the volume will drop but it doesn't return to the normal volume if I'm using android auto (though does if I'm listening to the radio or using the Bluetooth). It will only return to the normal volume if I cycle through the audio inputs back to android auto.

On the ‘Mehs’

1/I love the steering wheel
2/ Logical but annoying
3/ My radio never dims (SE LR)
4/ I use CarPlay and can get the SatNav the size of the whole screen
6/ I don’t find plugging my phone in a problem to use CarPlay - at least I know where it is!
7/ never noticed a dent
8/ Never noticed a wheel rumble - I have my music on most times
9/ Can’t you adjust the setting to 2023
10/ As we have all found, just add about 5 degrees to the AC and you will be comfy.

HORRID

1/You have a rear wiper? Lucky you!
2/ Agree - the granny charger is useless as it is way too short.
3/ Just don’t look for error messages when it is ‘booting up’

Maybe go on some YouTube channels or read other threads on here to learn about when LKA kicks in, how to make Sat Nav bigger, when error messages come on etc

After having had my MG4 for about 3 months now, I love it and would never go back. It has a couple of little quibbles, but they are so minor compared to the whole driving experience. I actually look forward to my commuting to and from work now, and have gone back to my youth where I could go out for a drive just for the fun of it!
