Maximum charging range MG4 Trophy long range

Hi all, I'm new to MG and EV's, I verry recently purchased a new MG 4 Trophy LR I chose this model over others because of it clamed maximum charge of 270-280 miles but am only getting on a 7kW home charger 215 miles, is this because the car and battery is new and will over time reach the advertised 270 miles?

Normal for this time of the year. Cold weather, using the heating etc. decreases the range.

Type of driving and journey type also have a big impact ... several short trips are worse than a single long trip because of the energy needed to heat up the cabin (and HV battery) for each trip.

You'll get used to how the car and battery operate in different conditions and be able to predict your real range. In the SR model I can see anything from 140 miles (belting down the motorway at subzero temperatures with the heating on, or indeed repeated trips to the village hall three miles away, pre-heating the car each time) to 225 miles (cruising slow single-track roads in summer).

The advertised ranges are always on the optimistic side, but you will see them when conditions are favourable. Which is more than you can usually say for the advertised mpg figures for petrol cars.

In the UK, my Trophy LR gets about 240 miles in the summer and 210 miles in the winter, when it comes to motorways.

I can reliably get 180 miles between stops year round with no range anxiety, which is the maximum I need before I need to stop for a break.

Claimed range is just that, you'll only see it in very favourable conditions and if driving below 50mph throughout.

Although as it has been pointed out, it all depends how you drive, where you drive and the prevailing conditions.

Last summer I managed to get 517km of extimated range vs the 450km claimed WLTP. On my weekly commute routine.

But even on motorways consumption was lower then claimed. With acc set on 120km/h I averaged 15ish kWh/100km. Well under the WLTP.

Now in winter with winter tyres and temps around 0-5°C, even with heat-pump consumption spiked quite a bit.

On my trip to work is now 16ish kWh/100 km vs 12ish in summer.
On the way home is 19ish vs 15ish in summer.
On motorways at 110-120 km/h speed it's around 20ish kWh/100km compared to 15ish in summer.

It's not just how you drive it's also the mode you are in. I always switch to Eco Mode at the start of a trip (have mode selection programmed into left star button). If you can drive without the A/C but with heated seat and steering wheel that might help.
You can see the range remaining on the Instrument Pack beneath speed and power system status. If you change Mode or A/C etc this will change the range forecast.
But don't worry too much about range, instead focus on where you're going to charge. If you're on a long journey you're unlikely to drive 215 miles before stopping for a coffee or loo (well I'm not - man of a certain age ) so use the coffee/loo break to add some charge.

Over a whole year (Sept 2023 to Sept 2024) I got an average real range of 243 miles for my MG 4 Trophy LR (second edition), but this was 268 miles in the three high summer months and 199 miles in the three height of winter months.

Hi Chips Mack, that's pretty good but is dependant on all the factors already mentioned above. You will also see the miles/kWh vary, this is the equivalent of miles per gallon in an ICE. Cold weather and mode influence it as well as speed. I drive in ECO mode most of the time

He probably zeroed the GOM.

Indeed. Zero the mileage on the Accumulated Total trip and the GOM (Guess-O-Meter) will report near-enough WLTP range. Over time the GOM will change to a more realistic view of the available range.

Yup, at 80% at this time of year I'm lucky to see 150 miles on my GOM on my Trophy long range, in the middle of the year it was 200+ at 80% and 240+ for 100%

That's correct, there are many threads on the subject and has been said soooo many times, but depends on how you drive, what mode your drive in, balancing the battery once a month, ambient temperature, leaving it alone gives a more truthful figure.

Yes - but be aware that it'll reset itself once the accumulated time reaches 100 hours, as the display only goes as far as 99 hours 59 minutes.

Thanks, I already wasn't resetting it, because I figured it probably knows better, if I let it learn. I am resetting Since Last Charge and Since Start (if they don't reset automatically).

I am actively observing Since Start, because it tells me how I am doing on average in the current ride. And lets me learn the ways of EV on my daily commute. But Total Accumulated gets my system the "real range" after each charge. At least that's how I see it. And it works quite good. Since the temperatures are dropping from november 'till now, I went from 375 km 100% to 335 km 100%. The biggest difference started when temperatures started dropping regularly below 7°C (to about 2°-3° during day).

Did not know about 100 hours...interesting limitation.
