Hi all,

As the title suggests, as of yesterday, the in built satnav is off by about 10miles, it moves when the car is moving etc. it's just the overall location is just wrong. Any thoughts on what to do? The vehicle time (when connected to get from GPS) is also out by about 30minutes. I've tried holding down the home button to reboot, but that's not fixed the issue.

Thanks in advance.

Try re-booting the system. Hold the home button down for approx 20 secs

Maybe try disconnecting the 12V battery for a few minutes? Think you then have to reset windows but nothing major...

I think there is a bug in the R59 software. Mine is an hour fast since it was updated despite having the time set for GMT+01:00 London and Use GPS Time.

As a work around I've turned off Use GPS Time and set the time manually

Thanks, the time isn't just an hour fast, its a random amount of minutes, and early today it just kept going forward a minute then back a minute. I think there's something somehow wrong with the GPS. My navigation is still showing me in the complete wrong place, if i click the weather tab, it states it can't find my location. Tried the tips above, to no avail.

Same here - I had wrong GPS location shown a few times. Each time it started correctly, but en route location was displaced e.g. it showed the middle of a town, but in reality i was on a main road beside the town a couple of km away, another time the nav showed me in a field some km beside the road. Funny because the routing told me the to turn left/right every now and than to get back to route.

Each time gps location came back to normal after 20-30 minutes without me taking actions.

The GPS module seems not being the best, as sometimes I start a route and every thing is ok for about 500km, but after a while i see that the location is still at 500m away from my starting point and i am not getting routing info - nav is frozen. This situation can only be solved by stoppping the car and reboot the infotainment screen, really frustrating.

I've had a bit to do with GPSs in our windsurfing comp. There's been a lot of effort spent improving accuracy.
The main cause of inaccuracy is poor satellite reception.
But to be a consistent distance away, parallel to your course is weird.

This could be possible if it's using doppler positioning, which doesn't give actual position, only changes in position. But that doesn't sound very likely, it doesn't make sense in a navigation context.
I don't suppose there's any indication where the antenna is?
If it's covered by anything electrically conductive that will severely degrade the signal, even water on an absorbent material will do it.

So is the problem worse when it's raining?

I seem to remember the engineers menu has a gps page showing the status of visible satellites and it only has the US GPS system and none of the Russian, Chinese or European ones that your phone probably has. Effectively it's probably about the same quality as we used to expect inside a car 15-20 years ago.

Sat in my car on the drive yesterday, messing about with the cars sat nav.

I needed to agree to something or other.

As far as it was concerned, I was in the middle of Berlin.

No end of faffing about would change its mind.

I just left it switched on and came back 15 minutes later to find it had sorted itself out and was now home.

Been fine ever since.

Thanks for all the help and advice, so after being perfectly fine for the month I've had the vehicle, 3 days ago, while driving, the issue occurred and it was incorrect ever since (using the car a couple of hours each day) I've jumped in the vehicle an hour ago, and all seems to be working! hopefully the 3 days was just a blip and doesn't happen again!

Thanks for that. One last question, and you may have done it already, if you set the time to GMT rather than BST, and switch on GPS time what happens?

I'm happy with R33 but could be updated to R59 so want to know the foibles.

There isn't an option to switch between BST and GMT on my version of R59

I am carrying out a few experiments on the time setting. Results so far:

a. I only get the DST button when GPS time is selected;
b. Setting DST to ON adds 1 hour to the time (as displayed on the driver's screen;
c. The date and time do not show in the settings/general tab unless GPS time is off;
d. With GPS time off and thus a time is displayed, I can set any time. Same for the date. (Checking if power-cycling resets this date/time.)
e. I could not change the London location from GMT+00.00.

Further to the above, with GPS time off the car held the incorrect date/time after being powered down for 30 minutes. I've now reverted to GPS time and DST off.
