I am not available to watch the podcast this evening but was hoping that someone could ask and answer the following questions for me please?

1. Will it have the new European front end? It looks way more modern that the current UK front end.
2. Will the 'standard' range MG5 also get the new euro front end?
3. Is the interior different in any way?
4. Will it have an App?
5. When is it officially on sale?
6. Will it be available on the Affinity Scheme?
7. Is MG Pilot a standard feature on the long range model?
8. And is MG Pilot going to be included on the 'standard' range MG5?

In reply to the questions asked within the PDF, I think £1400 extra to add MG Pilot, bigger range, and roof-rails that carry 75kg is good value. I am disappointed that the front end is not being updated to the one to be sold in Europe - maybe that will happen down the line.

An early graphic says upgraded roof bars on exclusive spec only, then a later graphic says roof bars load capacity 75kg on excite and exclusive? Can you comfirm are roof bars only on the exclusive long range or on both specs? Or are roof bars an optional extra on the long range excite?

Apologies Dave, I realised as I read out the information, that I'd accidentally put roof load limits in the Excite boxes. I explained that was an error on my part. The roof rails (and hence load limits) are applicable to the Exclusive model only.

This is crazy and very disappointing. If I want to change my car at the 2 year point my Mk1 MG5 will have been superseded twice and almost worthless. MG plainly have dumped excess i5 stock on the UK knowing full well they will in all likelihood then need to clear the remaining old style i5 mk 2 car on the UK too with the sweetener of bigger batt and pilot. In short order after getting rid of these cars they will then bring the facelift model to UK. Other markets who already have the facelift will by then need another "new model" and good old UK will need to be grateful for the "new" facelift which will be part of yet another stock clearance to make way for a worldwide Mk4? To get rid of the Mk1 and the short lived Mk2 stock MG will have to discount strongly further sticking the knife in to the residuals of those who have bought Mk 1 in good faith. Cynical, you bet but watch the residuals on your MG5 crash in the next 12 months unless MG do something to support loyal customers. Not holding my breath as this is a company who can't even get a simple mail shot right. Not happy (Miss (sic) Malcolm Cook) but at least I finally got the car manual addendum today!

I have to say I share your thoughts on the residual value of my MG 5, unless the nice people at Chorley offer a decent part ex against the new model. We will see I guess.

I really don't see them taking a big knock in residuals as a result of this new model. We haven't seen such an effect on the LEAF, or even the Ioniq, and that was with much greater increases in battery size / tech. However, this is one of the benefits of PCP purchase, in that you have a guaranteed buyback value at the end of the term, so you don't risk negative equity.

Residual prices are often subject to outside influence too - I'd expect that the creation of Clean Air Zones in Manchester are likely to encourage Private Hire / Taxi drivers to contemplate switching to an MG5 from their older/hybrid cars within the next couple of years. This is likely to buoy prices slightly.

I hope so Miles but with due respect as an employee is that the best spin you can put on it. Having a future market for mk1 is possible at the right (low) price. There would have to be a significate delta between the old, relatively new and new models and if you are at the bottom of that chain you will lose out. I hear you re other lower battery capacity models when new come along, but 3 models in potentially 18 months! The "slight" buoyancy of which you speak is unlilely in the next 18 months. So come on, which manufacturer has done 3 sequentially better models in such a short time ever and if they have are you really asking us to believe residuals will be ok? I hear the MG MD is on tour tell him how customers feel let down by the use of UK as a clearing house for old stock. Want to buy a car?

I think it'll be hard to sell 2nd hand in the next few months if there are good deals around on new, but long term I dont suppose it'll make that much difference. A well looked after small battery could have a better range than a rapid charge only long range several years down the line (if only we knew how to tell ?)

Lets hope you are right.....in my experience, I'm afraid, residuals will not stand three successive short term model up grades. Global MG have shown which markets they care about. Homologation cost are a bit of a smoke screen as is the Brexit argument. The real motivator is clear. Homologation of Mk3 has to happen anyway so why not do it now? that's because the priority appears to be the selling the remaining unsold (270?) Mk1 already in UK and the Mk2 units on the boat to UK. Discounts galore may be needed to shift all these cars before Mk3 arrival. The Mk2 not needing homologation is very "convenient" in this respect. I wonder how many Mk2 are actually unsold Mk1 that have been upgraded to clear stockpiles? If it doesn't need homologation its the same platform with added extra's. In some countries Mk3 face lift was the launch car or superseded Mk1 directly without the Mk2 stage. Are the other righthand drive markets (South Africa, Australia, New Zealand, the Republic of Ireland, Malta and Cyprus for example getting the Mk2 as well or are they just going to, or have gone straight to Mk3? Mk1 owners should consider a class action, unless MG come to the rescue with reasonable offers for early adopters who will seriously lose out on this relatively rapid model merry-go-round, particularly if they are using MG finance too.
