MG has beaten rivals to the punch - Auto Express

@Kpa
Not selling yet but will consider selling if XPENG was to come to the UK priced same as ZS EV or lower.
Just on the fence at the moment although I am enjoying the ZS EV.
But to continue the discussions....
Let see if we can bring in some data for @lee graham to comment on.
This is head to head data for Model 3 and MG ZS EV since they both went on sale in Mid2019 to end Q1.
This is the best image I can get but check for yourself on the next green car website.

With almost perfect timing, the new Zap-Map newsletter has just come out and contains a very interesting article about new car sales. Excerpt attached
I posted this chart this morning right after your sincere admission that you have no data on the issue.
Please check the thread. As for the accompanying analysis and growth in EV sales in the UK etc no one has ever claimed that is not happening. The issue is one of ill founded claims that MG are selling multiple thousands of ZS EVs a month when there is no data to just that.
I wish the ZS EV well but I also know the colossal campaign that MG UK is undertaking to push the ZS EV and although it has been successful there are clear reasons why MG won't catch up with Tesla and if by objective factual debate we can get MG to improve the ZS EV the better for us owners and MG also.

I notice Ford doing well on that list! ;)

Comparing best selling EV cars of Q1 2020, it looks like Tesla model 3 wins with 5,400 sales and MG ZS EV comes 4th with 1,800 sales.

It looks like we are matching the Leaf in sales! And I would argue Tesla is out of the affordable price range.

Have you seen the new Ford Mustang Match EV it is due out soon.I think that will take away sales from other brands in a big way. I am already interested and will go to look at on launch.Have a look it is a BEaUTY

With all due respect, that is not the chart you posted earlier. The one you posted was year to date - the one from the Zap-Map newsletter is July2020

@GordieG
My sincere apologies. Yes I thought I had posted that as well. Both are from the SMMT and I had both this morning but realised I posted only one. I really meant to post both because I think someone wrote more than 4 thousand ZS EV were sold per month for last few month. That is why I asked about Data.
Anyway Thanks for posting it. It clearly shows EVs are doing well but if you grind the data down however it is virtually all Tesla.

Agreed, Tesla are way out front but MG ZS is third in the pure electric. Behind only Tesla 3 and Leaf. Best selling EV SUV

I never said that, I said MG has reported 4000 sales over June and July 2020. The same autocar article that I quoted also mentioned the combined sales of the ZS and HS at being 3,500 year to date.

You are right.
MG is good very well with the ZS EV but not as good as going above 2k month on month. NOT as yet.
May be MG will do that in August and September if the Covid situation improves and the recession regresses. I am told OAP feature a lot in ZS EV owners so sales may be sustain for a while yet.
@Kpa
The Ford Mach eMustang is beautiful to the eye but I am not sure it will surpass ZS EV in sales this year unless the recession reverses quickly. In fact when I last checked in the UK not all Ford dealerships will be allowed to sell it. It will apparently be sold only at a selected few dealerships. Do not ask me why? I do not know. All I can say is that the fear of Covid / recession and Tesla is causing everyone in car industry to act abnormally.
The worry is that while everyone is slowing down because of Covid, Tesla after the initial hit from Covid now seems to be going at pace as if nothing has happened. Other car makers are confused as to whether this is an expensive bluff or whether somehow Tesla had a huge backlog of prepaid sales to push through but whatever it is the worry for other manufacturers both ICE and EV is that they may wake up tomorrow when Covid has settled and find everyone wanting a car has already bought a Tesla. Worse for ICE manufacturers is that people who look at Tesla and cannot afford it almost always go for another EV either eZoe or ZS EV. So the Tesla effect is beneficial to EV manufacturers as a whole.

A lot of Tesla being bought through businesses on lease /PCP and also eccentric Elon Musk also making headlines via social media platforms seem to draw sales for the brand .

SAIC and Tesla have the advantage of controlling battery factories. I was originally looking at Kia/Hyundai but even with coronavirus there’s a massive wait for their BEV SUVS.

Not sure what Ford’s battery supply is like, but the Mach-e is likely to be in short supply when it appears.

Dyson was unable to get his car model built in China due to all the regulations so pulled out.Tesla is the best selling car in China so how as Musk got in there as it is a best seller the Model 3 .Anybody enlighten me on this puzzle??

Tesla quoted a 2/3 month waiting but found found the Model 3 was available in a week, so I presume orders have been cancelled .

Which company makes the batteries for Chinese market Teslas - CATL.

Plus I would have thought that Tesla investing into China when building their Gigafactory there helped.
