This may have been raised before but I can't find the thread.

I am 84 years old and have a 2023 MG HS PHEV Exclusive, I cover about 4-5000 miles per year and have a spotless driving record. My current insurance is with Tesco Bank who increased my renewal premium by over 30% to almost £1000. I'd welcome any suggestions on other companies offering better rates. I recognise that all rates have increased, apparently because of uninsured drivers and that the HS PHEV is Group 28. Comparison sites do not help.

More generally, who underwrites motor insurance? Is there real competition? Why am I penalised because of age? Shouldn't those who cover high annual mileage and have claims bear the brunt of increases? Etc.

Hi Neilo.

Can't help much but when I transferred to mine (21 plate Exclusive) in late November (expires Aug 25) it carried an adjustment fee of just over £90, of which £25 will be for pushing a button aka admin charges, no doubt, and that was coming from a 2020 Grand C4 Spacetourer and I'm 58. So yes it is dearer but at £1000 that is quite a lot, again is there an age limit whereby premiums increase disproportionately? Don't know, sorry.

My Direct line when to over £2000 from £800 and I am 65 I go middle of quotes and went with Admiral which was around £890 and dropped to £700 in a new EV.
