MG UK Mil Discount - 4 LR Trophy £23,365.75

Right hand drive countries in the EU are Cyprus, Malta and the Republic of Ireland. Could it be that these cheap cars were originally destined there but diverted to the UK because of new punitive import tariffs imposed on Chinese EVs?
That's plausible. Although I read the new countervaling tariffs will not be restrospective after all and they are still being discussed. Last I saw there was discussion about having minimum pricing models instead.

I've had a thought about the possibility of Rachel Reeves slapping an extra tariff on Chinese cars in order to raise some revenue. It might be an easier option for her than other choices, although I guess waiting for the EU to settle on a position first make sense.

Tariffs will only hurt German automakers in the biggest single market in Asia. They are against it. There are loads of MG4 in London. Not too many are being used as Taxis however. They're mainly family cars. Which kind of proves a point that cars are too expensive and people want cheaper alternatives.

Good analysis. Fleet sales have been subsidised. Private sales are low because EVs have just been too expensive. I do wonder how much all the NCAP safety measurees have added to the cost. Small cheap and cheerful EVs under £15K will sell I think whereas manufacturers have gone for larger profit margins with big, expensive SUV style products.

I can find New X Powers at 30k on Carwow.

I might buy another now and just park up the other one til the rejection is done!

Have they definitely sorted 'the vibe' on later models do you know or is it just anecdotal evidence doing the rounds ?
Yes, no regrets paying £31k for my Trophy.

I'm trying not to imagine you saying that through clenched teeth ?

Plenty of delivery mile long range Trophys on Autotrader for £27-£28K. Depending on the upcoming Budget I may look to buy when my salary-sacrifice lease runs out.

Well, I wanted a car in April 2023 and I needed a car before November 2023 at the absolute latest, so there's no point in me bitching about it. And I've had an enormous amount of fun with my car in the past 18 months, and learned a lot, so I still consider I'm ahead on the deal.
Me too. But it makes it more likely that I'll keep the car the full term of the PCP, hand it back at the end and start again as I may not have any equity any earlier.

As people are no doubt fed up hearing, my 14 year old Golf GTi was written off by a BMW driver who came out of a side road without looking. I had already realised that EVs were where it was at, or at least where it was going to be at well within my usual car-life cycle, so decided this was it.

Of the newly acquired XPowers (i.e. taken delivery in September) it would seem that mine is one of the earliest manufactured dates, being 12th Nov '23 and is vibe free. Others seem to have mainly December dates and are generally orange or green, so I'd guess that fewer red ones (which I have) are produced/sold and hence fall under slightly older stock still being used up.
This is not an absolute as @WibbleWobble had a late Nov '23 car with vibes (don't know the colour - if indeed of any relevance) but does appear from the feedback seen that the Dec '23 on variants, currently being delivered, are a reasonably safer bet!

Articles in the (usual anti -EV suspects) press recently about how the cost of running an EV is going up due to the 10% increase in the price cap domestic electricity prices, with fuel costs lowering at the same time making ICE cars more attractive.

And literally the next day warning fuel prices are probably going to go up due to instability in the Middle East and with President Biden advising the Israelis to hit Iran oil refineries (instead of suspected nuclear plants). Which will definitely make the price of fuel shoot up. I see loads more EVs here in South Wales on the roads. And nice to see prices dropping at last with MG cars and cars like the new Renault 5 looking decent VFM also.

Just chopped my 12 month old ZS 1.5 Excite in three years before pcp ends, had to clear a couple of grand in equity, because of the offer of a brand new unreg 5SE in blue at £19300, nil deposit, same balloon (ish) just another £50 pcm. Already saving money and loving the car….
