Mg3 mpg

Is it better to be in eco mode to get maximum miles per gallon or normal mode asking for a friend
Hi there, I get 64.8mpg overall from my MG3+Hybrid Trophy. Personally having tried eco mode I don't see the point. I use normal mode and am very pleased with the mpg. I don't like sport mode nor do I use it. Hope that this helps?

That's odd Clive, I drive up our back road to the farm with no belt on and it just gives a very quiet beep about every 10 seconds, Iv'e not changed anything in settings either.
Yes you can get in and drive without the seatbelt when you first get into the car, but if you've been driving, then stop and take the belt off, it won't let you continue without putting it back on.

I am of the opinion that as you are moving the same lump of tin at the same speeds the mode doesn't change it in reality, beyond the frame of mind it puts you in I believe all it really does it tighten up the pedal response and suspension.

I could be wrong but I've been popping into sport mode now as it's a lot more fun and I've lost maybe 1mpg so far but it's hard to quantify.

I see, Try putting it into reverse then take it off, it's not required legally so might be ok.

Me too !

I back up my driveway without a seatbelt.

Strange MG clive!

I drove for several miles with my seatbelt on, of course. I stop in front of my house, get out of my car which is on P.
I open my gate.
I get back into my MG3, without wearing my seatbelt, put it in reverse (R) and the MG3 doesn't budge for nearly 100 metres.

I don't put it in P and get out, I just stop and wait a few seconds while Mrs Clive gets out, as she's getting out I take my seatbelt off, and the car won't let me drive on, I get a message on the dash saying to put my seatbelt on to proceed.

I can get into the car and reverse it up the drive without my seatbelt on (then turn it off and put it in P), and I can get back into it and drive back down the drive without my seatbelt on. But in the scenario I mentioned before, the car assumes I've removed my seatbelt while still driving, which technically, I have.

Very well mate, I (we) love it, and I have absolutely no problems with anything at all, apart from when I pull into our drive I have to stop to let the Mrs out because the passenger side is up against a fence, and at this stage in the past I have always removed my seatbelt to drive the last 20 yards, unfortunately once I've removed my seatbelt, the car won't let me drive any further, so I have to put my seatbelt back on. I had just got used to remembering to leave my seatbelt on for this manoeuvre, then after being away for a few days and not using the car, it caught me out again today.
I got caught up in that once when I entered a multistory car park. The angle of approach to the ticket barrier at the top of the ramp was awkward, so I had to remove my belt to take the ticket. When I went to move off again, nothing. The auto hold would not disengage, so I had to disengage the handbrake manually to get the cat to move. It's a safety feature with the auto-hold, no belt, no moving.

When we got the car, it was immediately taken on holiday, so perfect drives for good mpg. The result was an overall average of 58.9 mpg. Now, after weeks of normal short journeys and colder weather, it has dropped to 57.7 mpg. That is still way better than the car it replaced which averaged around 41mpg and our other car which is 36 mpg.

Here is my current average consumption since I have the car.

If you like stats, that's what you need for following your fuel economy ^^

I agree with you Clive. If I'm filling up at the supermarket I shop first, then drive without the seatbelt to the pumps. Also I have reversed without the seatbelt on. Not tried to stop/ start drive without it, as yet.
