MG4 Car of the Year 2023

It's not the issues that are the big problem it's how some dealers and MG UK are handling them ?.....stuff happens its how to you handle it that counts...but this is for another thread

MG sweeping all the car awards though (saw yesterday they bagged car of the year, not just EV a few days ago) and this unfortunately definitely plays into the way they handle issues. From their perspective, how bad can things be if we are getting all these accolades and then again it makes you wonder if the issues are not as amplified as this forum makes them and we on here are just all cry babies ha.

Of course we should cry if we have issues as we shouldn't have them but maybe we really are a small fraction and most of the cars are working right.

Just playing devil's advocate here.

Devil’s advocate doesn’t apply here.

A few of us moaning on here didn’t make them come up with a rushed fix for the oil leak.
And even fewer of us on here getting locked in the car didn’t make them issue a recall.

Rather than your suggestion that there is a ‘silent majority’ of happy owners, there is evidence there are unhappy owners who just aren’t on here ( moaning to the dealers direct instead )

Ah I see, so I guess those awards really have nothing to do with the everyday users and their experience but just the motoring journalists who drive for a few hours and then vote in such award categories.

In other words those awards are a false positive and not equivalent to actual car users experiences with their cars.

Makes you wonder what the point is.

Such awards are not intended to reflect ownership experience but the opinions of motoring journalists who get to experience a much wider variety of cars than the average person.

If they think a car is all round a winner, then it definitely does mean something: it means that comparing it to the rest of the market this was the best car in their opinion, ie offers the best balance of value, comfort, performance, practicality, etc...

Ownership is about this and also what it is like to live with the car long-term: reliability, service and warranty. So it is part of the story.

I see these tests as time savers, really.
I don’t have the time to go for test drives, especially when dealers often don’t have the model you want to drive anyway.

“You’d like to drive the manual petrol?…we have the diesel auto for you to try..”

So if tests say a car is decent I may well just go for it, knowing full well it doesn’t cover any long term ownership issues.

To be fair, reliability has become such a ‘given’ for me for years that I didn’t even really consider it to be an issue.

Agreed, though EV is a new technology and yet to mature, so that's why it is back as something to think about.

Give it 5 years and EVs will just work.

I’ve evidently been spoiled by 2 x Leafs that did just work.
EVs aren’t new, the leaf and Zoe have been around for over 10 years now.

It's well seen that Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde has put an ignore on my comments....hey ho no skin off my nose

Did you not see my quote...he has taken the hump with me...

Both by the nissan Renault partnership using the same under pinning technology, they've had time to hone their wares

Exactly. You have owned/named the only 2 EVs to be around long enough to be properly debugged (plus maybe Tesla Model S), so give the others a chance to catch up!

(Yes, we are way off topic).

The point is to sell "Awards Special" editions of their various motoring magazines.
