My MG4 is a year old and I bought it new. I have an ohme home pro which I use to charge the car overnight.

Occasionally I set the ohme app up for an overnight charge, plug the car in, but in the morning the car hasn’t charged. Nothing has happened!

Has anyone else experienced this and diagnosed the problem. I can’t figure out why sometimes it works and other times it doesn’t. What am I doing wrong here?

Cheers!

Usual questions. What battery level setting have you set? Do you have a schedule set in the car/app? Is there any way different you set up the car for charging - plug in when powered up versus plug in when powered down, setting schedule before/after plug in?

Have had this happen twice with an Ohme pro and on my MG as well as my wife's Mini. Was cured by rebooting the Ohme (off at the fuse box for 5 minutes then on again) after all the Ohme is just another computer that needs rebooting sometimes

Thanks for your reply. Thinking about it, it might be that on the occasions that the car doesn’t charge when it’s powered up. I’ll test it tonight.

Interesting! I’ll give this a try, thank you.

If you log a ticket with Ohme they can look at the logs for the session.
It could be lots of things, not limited to an over voltage condition at your property, or the car refusing to start charging when the Ohme starts delivering charge (shows as an OCPP status of suspendedEV in the logs). Or user error.
I use an Ohme and it hasn't failed to charge the car - I've tried different combinations of unlocking the car when it has been parked for a while and then plugging in and locking again, getting out of the car after a drive and plugging in when the car is still 'On' and then locking. Both ways worked. I've also unlocked the car and got something out of it whilst it has been plugged in and locked it again and charged OK (don't think I opened the drivers door though which may mess things up).

I've had to do the same with my Zappi so it's not just an Ohme problem or solution.

I had an issue after the software updates at the first service. The onboard charger was set to a specific charge time 22.00-6.00. The real issue was the car and app all said it was turned off. I turned the feature on and off in both the car and app. That seemed to sort it.

I’ve had problems after amending the battery charge schedule from the MG app. This seems to cause the schedule screen in the car to freeze up and the car doesn’t charge. The fix is to disable and re-enable the schedule in the car and amend the schedule times.

I had similar issues with my V2C Trydan and it ended up being a charger firmware issue. My MG4 would stop and restart charging sporadically, so I opened a ticket with V2C and, after some investigation they ended up releasing a firmware upgrade that fixed the issue.

On the other hand, I've also experienced some issues with the charge schedules on the car not being set correctly especially if I use the smartphone app to configure them, they not always get all the way down to the car, so I would double check that too, as other already said.

Good look.

I have an MG XPower and only charge at home using an Ohme ePod.
I set the MG app to 90%, plug the cable in the MG/Ohme, “approve” on my Ohme app and off it goes.
Charging progress can be seen on both the MG and Ohme apps and it stops charging at 90%.

This might seem obvious, but make sure the connector is fully home. I have been caught out; having plugged the lead in both ends and retired thinking the timed charge would happen overnight. I have an Evec charger, and the connector at that end needs a bit of a wriggle to make full contact. The Evec flashes when it recognises the car, which I did not realise at first. Now I know, I have not been caught out again.

I've had the same charging issue with my Ohme Home Pro intermittently failing to charge - this was becoming a bit more frequent. It looked like it was a communication error with the Ohme which displayed red error lights, restarting on unit or flipping power off didn't help. Anyway, I got in touch with Ohme asking if there was an issue and a few weeks later they installed a brand new charger. This has solved the problem completely, an example of great customer service. Quite unlike the customer service from MG regarding paint peeling off the front of my car - I've had to raise a complaint with The Motor Ombudsman and will take MG to court if necessary to force them to stand by their warranty commitments - but that's another story!
