MG4 internet, data limits

Does anyone actually have working data then? If so, what are your settings?

If not, what are you doing about it? Has anyone contacted MG about this issue, and are they even aware that it's happening?

Slightly concerned as I was looking forward to a 4 hour journey, and not having phone data rinsed by a year old!!

I am experiencing this issue for the last 5 days or so. Someone in FB mentioned that disconnecting and reconnecting the 12v battery fixed it for him. I can’t believe that. But will try it myself later today and confirm it here.

I am confused by this discussion as it appears to have a number of issues.

Is the issue related to the eSim not connecting to the phone network?

Is the issue that, having connected, the internet is not available?

Is the issue that a phone cannot connect to the car's hotspot?

Lack of weather data could indicate a GPS / eSim problem.

@MangoQPR, do your phones connect to the WiFi without internet access or not connect at all? I note you have the car's WiFi switched on, does switching it off make a difference?

My phone connects to the car hotspot, but without Internet access. Turning the car WiFi option off makes no difference to this either.

I have tried setting DNS to 8.8.8.8 and 1.1.1.1 but this doesn't help either.

There were no changes to my car in the 2 weeks or so that I had it, and it worked. Last couple of weeks have had no connection at all.

Interrupting the 12v supply seems to cure a number of problems as it forces lots of sub-systems to power-cycle. There are things you must do after the 12v returns.

@MangoQPR, do you have a 4g signal? Have you tried switching off the WiFi, hotspot and data traffic and then powering down completely for a little while before rebooting?

I have seen couple of people mentioning this that there are things to do after reconnecting the 12v battery. Where do i find more about it? Is it in the manual?

I'm having same problem with data management turning itself off when I turn it on. Just had updates to car on Friday to r59 so not sure if caused by this but seems others having the issue without changes.

I tried disconnecting and reconnecting battery to fix this network issue and didn't help. Also reset to factory settings and also no fix.

Yes the car will report various faults when you reconnect and it will ask you to initiate each window in order with the windows button. You then need to rotate steering wheel all the way to right then all the way to left and finally bring back to centre and this should cancel all the faults. Learned this from another post on here so thanks to @MikeW who posted it. ?

@Ngall, does the same toggling action occur if you use the shortcut menu - swipe down from top right? (Unless removed in R59.)

I've never looked at the data management tab in the settings page.

@Martinonline yes, the shortcut on the shortcut menu is grey indicating off and when I click it nothing happens. I assume it initiated the switch inside menus and then doesn't light up blue due to the switch turning itself off.

I looked at the settings/Data Management page this morning. After the info screen had come alive I immediately selected the page and the switch was grey and off. But as I waited it turned itself on.

So either the module performing the function had finished its set up or the eSim had obtained the correct data connection.

My hotspot hasn’t been working now for a week or two. Unclear on when it started.

No software updates. R40 infotainment.

Phone connects fine to car WIFI, car screen shows a 4G connection and that phone is connected, no data transfer from phone.

Have tried manually setting DNS to various settings, no joy.

Data Traffic button is greyed out on the drop down.

iSMART continues to work, so there is definitely a data connection to the vehicle.

Have tried all the above stuff (12v battery; reeet, switch frequency, turn it off and on). Nothing changes. Looks like something on the telecoms provider side might have changed.

I'm in France and I'm facing the same issue since I went in Luxembourg. iSMART is working but the car couldn't receive any POI from the app. No trafic data in the GPS, I check iSMART privacy and the car pricay, everything is "ON". I suppose it's a global issue...

Same for me in the UK. Infotainment shows 4G, hotspot on, privacy accepted, but no internet connection through the eSim. Data traffic button without reaction, remains grey. Hotspot connected, but says no internet. So it's an ESim problem.
