MG4 internet, data limits

I lost data last month

It was restored at the start of September

I've used it a handful of times (like an hour or two in total) to listen to Amazon music from the built in app

Data has stopped working again
I won't have even have touched the sides of 1gb this time

What is going on MG!!!!?
Same issue here. I got it back for a couple of days at the start of September but it has stopped working again. I've used it to navigate with waze for maybe an hour in total, there is no way I have used up 1 gig already which honestly is a laughable limit.

Yep same here ... I listened to a bit of amazon music since start of month and was planning to really test the limits at end of month so that it would reset again at start of October, but no need as the data has stopped again already. I assume the weather and traffic is taking data jn background but seriously wasn't that much Music listened to..maybe a couple of hours. 1gb must not go very far these days.

Mine has done the same. My online data setting switch thing in the settings screen had gone off, turned it back on but still no dice.

Haven't used streaming at all. Weather widget won't update either. Just some other garbage software problem to add to all the others

Has anyone reported it as an issue to the dealers, I understand MG said there have been no changes but obviously there have?

Sorry if I've missed some posts and info but is the 1gb limit an assumption based on usage or have MG come out and said that's the limit?

MG stated this in an email to me. They said this limit has always existed, which is obviously a simple li*, as I had never had issues before August 2024. But it's easy for them to say so, as we as customers have no view of the usage. What do they cut next? Max Speed?

Just been doing some testing of this. In the settings menu the "on-line entertainment network switch" now shows as off. Even turning it back on doesn't give me data - the weather widget doesn't update and checking for non existent updates gives a connection error.

Connected to WiFi at my house and the online network switch disables itself. Weather widget and updates check without issue on WiFi.

Turn WiFi off and the network switch doesn't return to on (not that it appears to do anything anyway) and the online stuff stops working.

But I can connect to the car remotely when not connected to WiFi and not in bluetooth range.

This never used to happen and the weather widget and online services used to work over the built in data connection. All testing was done when the car showed 4g connection.

Given MG can't fix fundamental issues with its software, I wont raise this. Just count down the months until I can trade it in for a proper car.

EDIT: though it appears that data switch actually turns on and off the traffic usage logs, nothing to do with data connectivity itself. But there's nowhere to view any logs....

My data is no longer working despite not using a hotspot once this month, nor the internal sat nav nor indeed anything that might consume anything other than a few MB of data. Must be a problem at the MG end.

They haven't paid the bill or someone's forgotten to renew the contract.

My Trophy has the hotspot and I use it when I get in the car because I have a PAYG phone. I do not use it to download/stream just to link to charging apps and view this forum on the move. I have not connected the car to my home wifi. I use the car's Satnav with its traffic information. I have had no issues with data limits.

hmm, mine is still working at the moment, or at least the weather app is successfully updating - not tried the hotspot for a few days

Hi all,

I have connected my MG4 to my WiFi and, using a sniffer, I was able to check why, even if the car is out of data, I was still able to connect via the Internet. In theory, this should not work on the car itself. I found out that the car always checks into a local server—in my case, in Australia. When you use the MG iSmart app, you connect to the same server, which then connects back to your car. I think MG has some kind of VPN that allows them to connect to their server with or without data on the SIM card. It’s the same concept with all IoT devices, where you connect to them via the Internet, not via Bluetooth or your internal network. I hope that makes sense to everyone.
