MG4 Mudflaps

Has anyone fitted tape under them where they touch the paint to stop them marking it ?

I did think about this-but didnt bother., i may add a little bit of black sealant in the future to keep the flap away from the paint? - but should last 10years + in anycase? (maybe)

I had to remove mine at one point (so I could refit them properly as I'd missed a fixing point). On inspection the paint underneath looked OK.

Afternoon all,

I recently ordered some mudflaps for my MG4 from AliExpress.

£22.21 18%OFF | For MG4 Mulan 2023 MG 4 2022 Mud Flaps Splash Guard Mudguards MudFlaps Front Rear Fender Auto Styline Car Accessories

£26 including delivery.
Ordered on the 12th from China
Arrived today 26th.
Quicker than I expected.

Anyway, they're on..
Relatively easy to fit, they use existing fittings, so no drilling etc. though they are a little fiddly with space restrictions unless you were to take the wheels off.
Which isn't necessary.

Decent bit of kit, all 4 mudflaps, decent fit to the moulding of the cars shape.

Even came with spare screws (which I didn't need)
And also a small screwdriver tool which helps with the tight spaces.

View attachment 12151

Also had a seat back hanger thrown in as a gift.

Anyway, on to the fitting.. it comes with simple instructions to aid fitting, not that they're really needed.

One to watch out for is the upper screws that need to be removed, they're not screws but button fittings, they can be lifted with a flat blade screwdriver.
I reused these again in the same hole fitting.

It's then a simple case of lining up the correct mudflap and putting the screws back in to the existing holes and tightening up.

Then work your way around the other wheels and you're done.

For the money you can't go wrong, hopefully it might keep a bit of the muck off the wide sills too.
Looks great but what about loss of range....much difference?

I've got them fitted to my white SE LR, and I'm so surprised how clean the sides of the car are, I'll gladly give up a miniscule % of range for a cleaner, less damaged car.?
I did think it wouldn't make much difference but still curious. I've ordered some so soon find out.

I guess your video instruction should be placed there as well :)

Related to these mudflaps, when I took my xpower in for the first yearly service they told me that they are going to fit mudflaps on it as part of a mandatory service bulletin from MG. I said I had already fitted the aliexpress ones on it, so they told me they are going to replace them with official ones. But after the service I got told the flaps they got from MG were identical to the ones I had already put on, so they didn't replace them and instead gave them to me as spares.

Comparing them myself the only difference seems to be that the official ones have an MG logo on them, so I doubt there are any range or wear issues to worry about with using them.

Holy Thread Resurrection Batman!

This is my 3rd, Front Nearside Mudflap.

Yes 3rd.

In 12,600 miles!

This 'set' is from Ali Xpress, because of course, you can't buy just the one required.

One set came from Amazon, and the other from Ebay.

They all of course, come from somewhere in China?

I did put it down to all the spray and mud that they have to deal with, what with living in the countryside etc, and especially the nearside, having to deal with all the mud and detritus, usually found on the near side.

Then remembered that its probably just the cheap plastic being unable to cope with the sheer speed of the thing.

I mean, I am asking quite a lot at of the plastics integrity at 70mph......(ahem)

Just a bloody good job they are less than £6 quid for a set.

(Might explain the lack of longevity)

There will (of course) be folk with many more miles on their car, and with the original mud flaps to boot!

But I doubt that you will have 'punished' your mud flaps to the same extent I have! 🤣

I managed to break one of my rear flaps as I pulled the charge cable from under the wheel.
I just bought another set off Ali Express, at £12 a set they're dirt cheap.

£5 now m8! £5!!

Who the hell is making any profit at those prices.

Surely it costs more than that to post them???

I believe that the Chinese government at one stage, possibly still, subsidised postage for on-line purchases from China.

Also the £5 price excludes an estimated £1 of VAT. So maybe it's still £6 total, same as before. That's over AU$13 these days (thanks, Mr Trump), and not so very inexpensive to my poverty stricken eyes. Though we'd only pay half the tax.

They might be of dubious quality but at least they break insstead of pulling the fixings out of the bodywork, which would be a right pain to repair.

I was shocked to see the price of MG3 ones at £28 compared to the MG4.
They will come down in price. My MG4 ones were £20.29 in November 2022

It looks like they are left with overstock of the MG4 flaps and trying to get rid of them. At that price I'm considering getting another set just in case.
