We've got two MG4s, one SE SR 2023 and one Trophy SR 2023. Both have had faults within the first year of purchase but the SE is the clear winner. In 13 months, we've had 4 warranty repairs (5 between the two). I've driven many a car since 1999 but this one takes the "trophy'.

• 1: Considerable amount of water found in boot after rain. *Fixed seal
•2: Water under rear passenger footwell, separate issue to 1.
*Fixed seal
3: Passenger front door button dead.
*Fixed, new handle and button.
4: Rear passenger window does not function via driver door or passenger door selector.

I'm not going to talk long about the suicidal AI (as this is common on the forum) which deems it fine to slam on for no reason OR has the penchant for pulling us into incoming traffic for lols.

Or in my particular case, MGs infotainment (Android Auto) which won't connect to my phone if I plug it in before the system starts or sometimes even after it starts. It'll just disconnect me after a few moments (replugging doesn't work, get out of car works lol).

Yes, we've had the latest updates straight from MG.

Shambles, will be our last MGs.

seems to be a couple of new trolls making their 1st posts on this forum.
Why assume I'm a troll? Surely you're sensible enough to see that desperate car owners often use internet forums as a way to vent their frustrations.

I've also complained to both leasing company and MG directly (rather than the dealer).

It's sad to hear you've had so much trouble. It seems to be the luck of the draw. Some people don't get any faults, and someone else gets a full hand. Don't blame you for wanting to bail out.
Yep, and we are at the other end. Had ours since December last year and 11k km's only fault is the under tray bluge. Been b*****y mint for us.

Ours broke down after just 300 miles (multiple error messages and parking brake would not release, even with override switch so was stuck on driveway). On way back to dealer today. Not happy at all.

Hoping for a quick and comprehensive fix but already I think this will be our last MG.

Sorry to hear about your experience...

Mine hasn't had much to complain about (just the usual stuff... rattles/vibrations/under tray bulge). But it has a weird way of screwing with your head... Maybe it is a high tech "Chinese drop" designed to turn us into psychotic drones which, coupled with Latent Kamikaze Assault, could be an effective destabilising factor in the capitalist/imperialist societies it is being sold to... :D

OR - it could just be poor quality control (coupled with a mad rush to market)...

As a child, growing up in a communist country, if the engine started and the wheels were turning - well that qualified for a "good" car...

Stay strong!

I think MG's biggest failing is not that its not a good car. Having driven 1500 miles in the last 7 days in mine, it's definitely a good car. The issue is with the support from MG UK, the dealerships, and MG China when you do have issues.

I probably wouldn't buy another MG myself, not because its not a good car, I really enjoyed driving it on my Scottish roadtrip, but because I have a low degree of confidence of problems being fixed quickly and efficiently if/when they occur. Shame, as the 7 year warranty was a big plus point when i bought it.

I'm sitting here in the dealership hoping that THIS time they will install R33, having just had a damn good vent about the unfriendly, unhelpful and downright obstructive attitude of some of their staff. I told them that I really really love my car, and if they've got a basically satisfied customer wound up the way they've got me wound up, pity help customers who actually have a serious complaint.

Please ignore unfriendly replies like that. While most people are happy with their cars, even the happy bunnies have the occasional gripe, and it's undeniable that some people have had significant problems and there are some absolute lemons about. Whether this is more common with MGs than with other brands I don't know.

I hope we're about supporting people who are experiencing problems and helping them find solutions, not accusing new members of being trolls after one post.

Indeed. At no point did it come across my mind that I wanted to spoil anyone's fun and troll here.

It'll be really interesting to see what happens from this point on from both Santander and MG Motor Ltd and I'm happy to keep you all updated on this thread if you're happy for me to, Mod.

Yes please do update us - most of us are nice?

My MG4 was one of the first batch to arrive in the UK and its full of faults so dont assume we are trolls just because we dont lick MGs backside like most people on here.

The absolute killer in mine is the fact in winter the car restricts speed and power from 40% battery, i should have rejected the car the first time this happened, but i was told by MG that all EV's suffer the same way in cold weather. However i know this to be untrue now.
I cant wait to give my car back in a couple of year and i may even try and get out of the PCP deal early

The new car will not be an MG and probably wont be an EV

If anyone buys a new MG and it has any issues, hand it back immediately and demand your money back because all the dealers will ever do is try software updates but you can update lemons with code!!!

Of course. I think most of us can tell the difference between a troll and someone genuinely upset because of problems with their car. We've had a couple of disgruntled ex owners perpetually rubbishing the cars across multiple threads and raining on the parades of delighted new owners, but we do notice when that happens.

Calling someone a troll because of one post is unacceptable.

There are also a lot of people on here who dont own an MG or an EV
yes, like me but if someone has an issue with a car, they don't join a forum and slate the product with their 1st post just because they have a problem with that product. There will be other issues such as personal problems, maybe own a different EV with issues and simply have an argmentative/angry personality or other issues in life. There are even those engaged by manufacturers to go spread false negative 'information' about a competiyive product. Criticism comes after debate/discussion, not as a first comment unless there are underlying issues that are unrelated.

2 new posters comment on the same day with the same basic negative structure in their posts. I'll go with my experience and opinion on this.

The only reason i joined this forum was because of the issues my car had.
I wanted to find out if other people had the same problems and its looks like a game of luck, you car will either be perfect or a lemon with lots of issues!

On the other side to that, there are also a lot of MG dealers and MG salesmen on this site that just sing their praises all day long to try to deter from the bad new hurting sales and their commission by talking down disgruntled customers comments.
There are also deluded MG extremists on here who have only ever owned MG's and they will never have a bad word said about any MG.
Its an internet forum so just like every forum there are some people who are genuine, some are fake. some are here just to piss people off and some may even be bots

There is only one confirmed MG dealer rep on this site (to my knowledge), and he's very fair with his opinions and advice (when asked and able to respond).

As to me? My MG4 is my first ever MG (and first ever EV). I've been one of the "lucky" ones as I've had very few issues with mine, and any that have arisen have been sorted (except the undertray, but the bulge in mine is minor compared to many others). Would I buy another MG? Well I wouldn't rule them out in future - it'll all come down to the "bang for buck" consideration when that time arrives. :)
