MG4 Restricted speed - weird

Mine's been back again, different dealer. Apparently they cleared the error codes did 'some updates' and that should have sorted it. Drove away from the dealer, still exactly the same

I've lost the will with trying to resolve this now, MG utterly incompetent and clueless on this issue (at least in my experience)

All my problems will be resolved when I can hand the keys back to MG.
I'm even going to look into ending the PCP deal early.
I'm looking into the possibility of doing the same. Shame, as I quite like the car apart from this.

I really wish I had not rushed in to getting one. I'd actually be very happy if someone crashed into it a wrote it off.

Any takers?????

I don't blame anyone for bailing out over this issue. Some people got it fixed, but that doesn't help anyone whose dealer won't do it for them.
I'm not sure it's a case of won't. TBF, MG in Beaconsfield tried many things and genuinely seemed to want to dig a bit and help. I did feel somewhat reassured by their efforts, despite the undesirable outcome. MG Milton Keynes (latest attempt) inspired no confidence whatsoever from the moment I entered the showroom.

I seem to have had similar 'fixes' that appear to have helped other cars, software and hardware, though they've not resolved mine, for whatever reason. I feel like MG are clutching at straws with what to try next (and beginning to go round in circles). I'm a bit drained with it now

Does sound like the power-limiting issue, if you haven't already I would report to your dealer and strongly push to have the car checked and updated to fix this.
I’ve not had the issue before at all, so I’m really hoping it’s an anomaly and nothing more than that. Time will tell. Ordinarily I never let the battery go below about 25-30%. The only other time I allowed the battery to go lower than that I got the power reduction to maybe 80% I think from memory, which made sense to me. The one difference that I can think of from the last time to this is that the car was in for its first service a few weeks ago and had software updates done. Maybe one of them hasn’t quite taken properly.

I’ll see what happens over the next day or two and maybe have a chat with the dealer.

Power limiting under 20%

I have owned my MG4 for for the past 18 months and I’m very pleased with it however I have also noticed a few challenges when it drops below 20%. At 20% the car warns me to charge soon which is fair enough but then at lower percentages it starts to restrict power without warning. I understand why it would happen to protect the battery, but this happened the other day at 13% trying to go up one of the large hills northbound on the M23. The car restricted me to 18% power which meant I couldn’t maintain 60 miles an hour and had to crawl up the hill at 43 mph. I got back up to 60mph, but at the next large hill the same thing happened I was down to 12% SOC and the car this time limited me to 13% power which meant going up the hill my speed decreased to 34 mph which caused lots of problems to lorries behind me in the inside lane. I found this extremely dangerous. I tried changing to economy mode but this made no difference. I couldn’t pull off to try and reset it

I had no warning it was going to reduce my acceleration until I actually tried to accelerate to maintain a safe speed on the motorway.
Later on in the journey at about 9% battery remaining, I got Messages telling me it was reducing power and then the tortoise symbol came on, but I was on a flat part of the road so I was able to get home safely a few miles later.
This reduction in acceleration has happened before in exactly the same place but I didn’t loose that much speed.
I’ve written to MG customer support asking if this is normal, but no response

I had all the software updated a few months ago as the car wouldn’t charge with CCS chargers. Fixed by updated software,

From reading the forum it would appear that there is no fix for this.

Although the actual issue is a real concern, I find the lack of support from MG CS even more unforgivable. It’s only by supporting their customers that they will develop as a brand. I’ve seen no signs that they really care about their customers.

I had this issue too - very alarming - however, the next set of system upgrades resolved it - are you sure that your dealer actually did the updates - perhaps check which versions where you can

All I know is that I’m on R59 of the infotainment system. Not sure who or even if you can find the other software versions
