MG4 SE LR says 100% charge but only 165 miles shows

I wonder if there should be a winter range thread in the wiki post of common questions pinned to the top of the forum. I can see there's a general range one, I'm sure it has cold weather stuff in there somewhere but it's pages long.

My suspicion is a lot of it is to do with battery heating which the MG often wants to turn on and sometimes does turn on even if you select cancel.

@Rolfe mentioned in another thread that pre-heating the battery while charging makes a positive difference. My own experience is that if you don't do that but rather let the battery heat while driving, it really knocks the mi/kWh for six for the first few miles. If you only take short trips that makes the range look dire. On longer journeys it doesn't have so much effect.

Hi - new owner here! Still finding out about the car but enjoying it too. Problem is, I’m finding that my SE LR will charge to 100% but only 165 miles shows immediately after charging. I’ve found a few posts that suggest that cold weather has an effect on this but this seems like a rather dramatic difference from the claimed range. Can anyone suggest what I need to look at - software issues for example?
Cheers, Bob

My MG4 LR estimates roughly 2 miles per one percent when temperatures are a little below/above zero. I reckon 1.77 would be more accurate. So for example as I write I have 62% charge and 124 miles of range predicted. I always use A/C and heated steering wheel and often use heated seats. I have been sub-zero at the start of most days for the last couple of months. Most of my driving is multiple very short drives through the day which don't justify battery pre-heating. For long journeys pre-heating the battery is worth it. Driving at winter temperatures isn't going to heat your battery very much as the air is so cold.

The important thing is really the accuracy of the estimate rather than its magnitude.

XPOWER here, shows 158 at 80% charge.
So in theory would be 198 at 100%.
Weather is 3c currently bloody freezing haha.
Only ever charge to 80% for health.

Our MG4 has halved from 260 to 130 when charging 100%. Really shocked as it’s not been that cold down south and got at least 160/180 last winter. When speed limiting kicks in when you’re down to the last 20 miles too it’s such a pain. Car not even 2 years old so kind of shocked too to be honest.

That is awful and should not be. It's probably a calibration issue though.

Run the car down to less than 10%. Let it sit for a couple of hours. Charge to 100% on AC in one uninterrupted charge and let it balance. This will probably fix it.

Resetting the trip meter won't make a permanent difference.

165 miles is based on your last journey.. not your next one!

As an approximation look at your accumulated miles/kWh and multiply that by your battery size.

In Winter most of my driving is local so my average speed is low but there's no real chance for the battery to warm and I'm using the HVAC. I expect my max range to be lower. Currently, at 80% the GOM is showing 166 miles.
Same here

Re set your trip. It calculates on the last drive experience or experiences. So if you drive a mile a with heating on it will calculate that your very inefficient. Take a long trip and things will look better. Don't get to obsessed by the milage . You will find over time you will do 3miles per kWh

Try not using your heater, I use the heated seats they don't affect the mileage. Alway I drive on evo mode to gain miles. I've been getting about 180 to 200 during winter. But charged up last night and it went to 272.
