MG4 Software Update Thread

Or double press the fan button to get to the AC menu and press the phone button to get back to Android auto.

Now that ELK,/LKA is easy to turn off there is much less to grumble about with the MG4. It is really down to ACC slowing excessively in corners and when overtaking and the air conditioning being tricky to get right. I had mine at 26C today and still needed to hear the seats. Yesterday it wasn't doing much at 25C.

In an ideal world Google maps would see my charger level and predict my charge at destination like ABRP but that's just me chasing the ideal.

I think the MG could have made better use of the key mappings. We can turn the volume up and down in a few ways but dedicated shortcut keys for ELK, AA/Carplay and AC would be handy. Perhaps a long press on home or pressing home when in the car menus for AA would be possible. More choice commands to toggle settings especially MG Pilot would be good.
I think the slowing excessively on corners was fixed with SCUK001 (under warranty update) or it could have been SC47, either way they fixed this for me the first time I ever took the car in for no charge. They never updated my infotainment for me though so I've done that via USB.

Hello,

I have been looking everywhere on this forum but did not manage to find a proper explanation on how to do infotainment software downgrade.

Long story short: I made the mistake of installing R46 on a standard edition and would like to go back to R33.

I accessed ENG menu by clicking several times on SW version, entered 200519 code, clicked on USB update and tried to do Infotainment system ECU update with a USB key plugged in.

After waiting for a bit, update was reported as successful, yet I still see R46 GUI.

Has anyone been able to do a downgrade before?

Thank you!

I don't know how you will downgrade, but I would appreciate it if you could share your positive and negative experiences.

As pictured in another thread the file structure is different for the 2 versions, surprised it worked in the first place
I would try putting the zip file from R33 in a folder called AVN_MPU
Top is 1300
Bottom is 1100

Hello,

@haloweenhamster
Actually I have been able to install R46 because I had all files at pendrive's root.
I will try again with the zip placed under AVN_MPU folder, thank you for the hint!
But I am still surprised something seemed to be done with R33's structure, just that I remained under R46 after restart.

@korhancosanergun
At startup I had to bypass activation phase twice, as this process could not succeed due to a mismatch between software and vehicle type I guess.
Aside from this, car is working without any issue.
I simply have a GUI cropped due to useless navigation and weather widgets.
Also, I tried internet hotspot and it simply does not work. You can connect with your phone, but there's no data provided.
In a word: don't do this on your SE until we figure out how to downgrade!

What version did you start with?
I didn't even know the SE had the ENG menu (200519), I thought it only had the ENG menu and USB updates via the phone's keypad. Are you sure you upgraded from there?
Try downgrading to R33 SE, let us know

Hello,

I was using R08 and upgraded to R33 using another entry point for ENG menu (phone keypad with code "##4479#*").

From there, I upgraded to R46 (with zip file located at root folder of pendrive) and got access to an unadapted Trophy/Luxury GUI.

Then, I could access ENG menu from another entry point (tapping software version number 5 times, then typing "200519"). I had to press the brake pedal to enable software update (had an error message without doing so). But I could not revert back to R33, even if it seemed to me that an update was happening as I could see a progress bar and had to reboot.

Since then I followed @haloweenhamster advice and created my own fake Trophy update by placing R33 zip file under AVN_MPU folder (not at the root of my pendrive). I tried doing the update this morning and... It worked!

This is how you downgrade software on MG4, especially when installing Trophy/Luxury software on a Standard/Comfort vehicle.

Thanks a lot! :)

Hi, my service center updated me from R24 to R46. I found that the left option button with the star on the steering wheel can no longer be set to anything other than recuperation. There is a function selection option in the menu for the left option button, but after changing to another function (such as driving modes), it reverts back to recuperation. Has anyone encountered this and how is the fix to make the large button functional for selection?

I think others have had this problem. Ask your service centre to update the software again.

If you go into the engineering menu what FICM MCU version does it show?

R46 should be 68.4.3.0 or newer

They missed the 2nd step of the upgrade. The details on how to do this and the files are available in this thread

Please, if you know where the instructions are here, can you send me the link? There are 200 pages... Thank you very much.
Page 182 is the instructions if you wanted to do it yourself but I'd recommend checking to see if that is the issue & if it is then contact the dealership as they've probably done & will do multiple cars incorrectly
