Hi
I'm having some issues with my MG4

1)I can only use a short cable for Android auto. I work in IT so I know my cables and they are of good quality. If I use a longer cable it gets detected goes to switch into AA but then turns off. WHY?
2) USB C port always says faulty charger when I try to use it to charge any phone.
3) I still get the MG woman shouting at me when I get in the car despite the welcome messages being turned off.
4) I can't turn off the wireless charger, so my phone constantly overheats (fold4). This is a company car, so I can't really take the console off to unplug... Is there a workaround? I don't have space in the cupholders before anyone says that, as I use them for the intended use. And the cable isn't long enough to get into the centre console
5) Randomly, I get a black screen on AA and it won't work again until the car is turned off and on.
6) Again at random AA will work, then randomly disconnect after 3-5 mins. I then have to remove the cable and plug it back in for it to "work". This will happen over and over until the car is restarted.

Hi, there is another MG4 forum where they might help; also, search keywords on USB cable (loads of posts) and MG is very very fussy about what kind of cable you use so you need to try quite a few.

Try re-booting the system (I am sure you have heard that one before :)). Hold down the home button for approx 20 secs until it reboots. It might fix.

your MG woman shouting is either the car greeting OR is the setting in the WEATHER section........ (don't ask...)

Black screen may be linked to AUTO on lighting, used to bug the heck out of me, but turning auto off stopped it happening, and turning auto back on after a month, hasn't yet triggered the same issue.

I use a wireless AA adaptor with no issues, so that may be a route you can take

Will check this one

Not Dark I mean off like everything is in there working but the screen looks like its powered off

These don't apparently work well with Samsung and even then I would still be reliant on the port as I cant use the usbc and the 12v has a dashcam

Mine went off, not dark mode, but WAS directly affected by the setting for light mode/dark mode and auto mode. It didn't put it to Dark mode, it turned off the display...

Wireless AA - mine is a samsung s21+, no issues at all. maybe I got lucky.

Oh great i might take a look, do you have a look at the link for the android auto thing?

My AA has just given up the ghost. Previously any problems a have been solved by either re booting the head unit or disconnecting the cable and reconnecting it . I've tried that a number of times over the last couple of days to no avail .
Would disconnecting the 12V battery do any good ?

AA as in android auto? if everything else works, try a few different cables or buy a wireless dongle, they are from about £15
might be that your cable got a bit loose over the time ....

Just started working again.Used my normal cable . bizarre .
USB cables are very tricky for demanding roles, more than half cables I have only do slow charge on my phone despite being sold as fast charging... Likewise, MG is one of those demanding connections so the slightest thing like loosened plug, it won't work... Wireless is definitely way to go....

I'd love true wireless but I'm concerned that I'd buy a wireless adapter that my car wouldn't like at some point and I'd be back to square one

for about £15, worth every penny... don't have to bother with plug/unplug and cables sticking around ...
one example:

search all of MG forum for Android Auto wireless and you'll see plenty of happy users ...? works for iPhone and Android.

According to the author's profile he has a MG ZS, which will probably be using different software and hardware, so there is no guarantee that it will work as well in an MG4.

Yes, I have ZS but the way these work is the same in any car - they mimic USB cable so instead of a wire it's wireless or Bluetooth. It's like using a wireless mouse on a laptop, it works the same on any model. Other MG4 drivers can confirm.

i think some of the problem with the MG4 is that the car's software is slow to boot up. Meanwhile some adaptors have booted and are looking for the appropriate handshake with the car, doesn't get it in time and gives up.

Someone has found if the wireless adaptor can be set to delay its start until the car is ready then a stable connection is made.
