My MG4 Trophy passenger door handle stopped working, i.e you couldn’t open it when locked with the key in your pocket by pulling on the door handle. My dealer took 1 week to order a new one and and correctly paint match it, before refitting. All working fine now. Great service.

Mines the same. Asked them to look at it when it went in for its first service last week but because of the Easter bank holidays they are contacting me on Tuesday to book it in.

Why is it the passenger door that stops working and not the driver's door?

Just had a call from the service department. They are still waiting for a new door handle as it's on backorder.

I did have it booked in next Monday for it to be replaced and also for the software updates they ran out of time for when it was serviced the Thursday before Good Friday.

At least they have now renewed the MG Assist cover that they forgot to do.

Patience is a virtue especially when you have an MG EV

My driver's door button went first. The day after that was sorted, the passenger one went.?

My MG has been with them for about a week now

Front right indicator stopped working & passenger door mirror has to be replaced ( wasn’t opening/closing properly )

+ when it went it they told me the 12v battery has to be replaced

Spoke to them yesterday, still waiting on parts ? but lady I spoke to on phone said “hopefully” it’ll all be sorted next week ( I won’t hold my breath especially after reading about other MG4 drivers & their experiences

MG4 seems to be pretty popular in the U.K. so I’d of thought they would keep parts/replacements in stock? I could be wrong but it sounds like they ordering from overseas?

I still enjoy the car but 100% agree, going to need patience with MG if you plan on sticking with them for the long run.

Update: As I hadn't heard anything I phoned the parts department to see if the handle was now in stock as it was on back order.

Good news. It's now in stock.

Bad news. It needs painting and the painter is away for 2 weeks and the service department will call me to book the car in when it's done.

Update 2: You couldn't make it up. The painter has returned from holiday but he hadn't got the correct colour

They've given him the paint codes so he's doing it next Tuesday. The reason being is they haven't got a body-shop at their Derby site so they share a painter for touch ups etc. with their other sites.

At least they let me book the car in...25th June...3 months since the fault was accepted. I suppose I could have had it done next week but I wouldn't get a courtesy car and they have agreed to do software updates whilst it's in ?

I'd still like to know what fails in these door handles. Will they give you the old one to inspect?

I would like to know too. Mine stopped working and then would work for a couple of days with a bit of wriggling before totally failing. It could be a bad connection.
I'll ask when it goes in.

My drivers door button has failed but I think it was due to sticking in the last frost/ice we had earlier in the year. Passenger side is fine. I can't be bothered to get it replaced yet, I'll wait until the next service is due.

I had to have my drivers door handle replaced. It became intermittent and then stopped working all together over a period of a couple of months. The handle contains a switch with an external button and an antenna for the keyless entry, the same on the passengers side. There is a third antenna located in the tailgate along with the tailgate switch.
Mine failed during last winter. I suspect that when it freezes overnight and you press the button in the morning the plastic internals of the switch fail due to them becoming brittle. My rule now is to gently feel if the button is free, if it's not I use the keyfob.

My passenger button failed a few weeks ago (no ice or anything it just stopped clicking like a broken mouse). Booked in on the 17th. Really odd as I use the drivers one a lot more

Yeah they seem to fail during the winter months when it is frosty.

Got ours in the February and the driver one never worked. Had to wait for a replacement to be sourced and painted.

I avoid using the button during the winter and use the keyfob in case. I don't want to have go through the dealership hassle again, even if it is done under warranty!

That's interesting @gazza487 in that there was no ice, but still cold i guess and potentially brittle. It still points to a switch failure or the plunger that couples the button on the handle to the switch itself. Mine was similar in that it it had no real feel / little movement after it failed. The failure of the switch during winter seems to be more common as reprted by @Bam Bam and @MuzGB1970
