My MG4 Trophy was 1st registered in March 2023 and still has the original Sat Nav Maps.

Version: HERE_EU_22Q1 2202204172242.

I have purchased a new Sandisk 128GB USB memory stick which has been formatted to exFAT.

Using my own MG4 VIN number, I visited the designated sat nav download site –

https://wwmgmotor.eu/owners/user-manuals and downloaded the applicable file to my P.C.

Using 7Zip the files were extracted to the Sandisk memory stick.

The downloaded file was HERE/EU/23Q4/20231113233400

When the USB stick was inserted into the vehicle after following the updating procedure to the letter, I received a screen message saying “Please check the resources in the USB.”

Numerous attempts were made to progress the update with the same result.

Another map update download was made using my MG4 VIN number to –

https://iov-mapmg.soimt.com/#/downloadMap where I downloaded another so called, appropriate map update 23Q4_EU_20240111021553_P.

When I attempted to update using this file, the screen message was the same “Please check the resources in the USB.”

I am at a loss to understand how to apply this map update.

Unfortunately, I have an MG Dealer who has to be told where to look for the fault!

Advice would be greatly appreciated.

If you download from 'iov' it will be a zip file which must be extracted. I seem to remember something about not unzipping directly to the USB stick. Then you copy the files to the root folder of the stick.

My stick was formatted to FAT32 and it worked. But see below which hindered me to begin with:

If you're on an earlier version of the infotainment system, there are two files on the USB that you need to delete before starting the update:

VN.txt and File_verification

If you delete those from the root of the USB and try it again that may resolve it for you.
Note it takes a long time without progress reports.

The zip file from 'iov' was extracted to a folder on my PC hard drive and then copied to my KINGSTON USB stick.
The infotainment system recognised the USB map files and commenced loading.
As you will know, this process takes a long time.
Sadly, towards the end of the process, the caption said "Validating the resource files" and then displayed "Map upgrade failed." "Please try again later."
This process was tried several times both with and then the removal of 'VN.txt and File_verfication files without success.
I was almost frozen to death in my garage and I have finally given up.
The car has been booked into the Dealership in March for its annual service and I will ask them to solve the issue.

Does the update provide anything meaningful for those that use Carplay or Android Auto?

Like the speed limit database or similar?

It's always something I've toyed with doing but always stop as I can't be bothered to go back to a dealer (again) if it goes wrong!

As you will see from my attempts to download a viable map udate, the download can be obtained from either the 'iov' website or 'mgmotor.eu.'
There are only basic instructions about the process required to input the map update to your MG.
There is no information for those who use Carplay, Android Auto or anything else!

Thanks Hadrian.

More thinking whether it's worth bothering with as I don't use the built in sat nav. But if it updated the speed sign recognition database it may be worth the attempt.

There must be a speed database as there are many roads round here with no speed signs but when I exit a side road onto a new road, the speed limit sign changes in the driver's display.

My experience of the MG speed sign recognition is not a good one, as, using local knowledge and my own visual awareness, I know that the indicated limit on the screen is frequently wrong.
I have a Garmin Sat Nav, which although not perfect, is more reliable and easier to update than the MG Sat Nav.
I really only wanted to keep the MG maps up to date as they were still the originals from 2023.

Used a smaller memory stick when I updated the XPower maps and it worked straight off the bat. As for the 5 though… took several goes (and considerable time spent) at downloading/extracting/copying to various storage devices (microSD + 2 x 32GB USB 2.0 sticks) formatted in either FAT32 or exFAT, and with/without the VN.txt file, I finally had success using a 1TB USB 3.0 stick formatted in NTFS and with the VN.txt file deleted.

Go figure! 🧐

I use Tom Tom Go via Android Auto and it works without issue with all speed limits displayed without the need for camera recognition for £20 per annum. It is the best sat nav I have ever used.

Here is what worked for me:
Downloaded maps zip from mgmotor.eu (HERE/EU/23Q4/2023111323340)
Extracted it with WinRAR to my computer and then transfer it into a 128GB microsd inserted in a card reader (exFAT), took easily 2+ hours to copy.
Removed 'VN.txt and File_verfication
Switched on the car (2023 MG5), but not the high voltage battery
Plugged the reader in the left USB port
Configuration, system, update map
Wait 2-3 minutes for it to find what is in the drive
Confirmed I wanted to update maps.
The system then checked the integrity of the file and updated the map with no more trouble.

It took me quite a lot of trial and error and downloading and unzipping the maps several times, until I came across that if you do not delete vn.txt and file_verification it will not pass the verification phase.

Hope it helps
