It is technically possible to install Trophy FICM software on an SE model.

This thread aims to document the process and provide advice for those attempting it.

Resources:
All ressources are available here:
Microsoft OneDrive

Current maps are also available here:
https://www.mgmotor.eu/downloads/maps.zip

Risks involved:
I’m deliberately not providing an overly detailed step-by-step guide because I want users to fully understand what they’re doing.

If the procedure outlined below seems unclear, it’s a sign that you might lack the necessary knowledge to perform the upgrade safely. Feel free to ask questions, but avoid attempting anything without a clear understanding. Proceed only if you’re confident in your abilities.

Be aware that this update is entirely outside of MG’s official procedures and is not covered under warranty.

Filesystem structure:
When running a SE Release:
Place the update file (usb_ota_update.zip) at the root of the USB stick.

When running a Trophy Release:
Place the update file in a folder named AVN_MPU.

To avoid confusion or repeated file handling, you can place the update file in the AVN_MPU folder and also copy it to the root directory of the USB stick. This way, the file will be ready regardless of the release you're working with.

Procedure to update to R63:
while on a SE release
  • Go to the engineer menu / Select Upgrade AVN-SOC (This updates the MPU to 1300R63).
  • Upon restart, validate both system and navigation
  • Go to the engineer menu / Select Upgrade Infotainment System ECU (This updates the MCU to version 68.4.3.0; the latest version is unfortunately not available).
  • Upon restart, go to system > privacy policy and swipe down to enable navigation and online music.

At this point, your system should be operating normally, excluding navigation and built-in voice recognition. There should be no issues with AA/CP.
I currently do not have the VR files, so it is not possible to make the voice recognition functional.

Installing maps:
If you try to install the latest maps straight, it will fail.
I 've found a workaround, but it's a wee bit of a hassle as it involves installing several maps in a sequence.

The process involves:
Installing Australian maps as a bootstrap
Installing European 22Q2 maps, it's an older version of the maps without an MD5 check.
Updating this version to 2023Q4 maps, which is the most recent version available.

The Australian maps are quick to download, unpack, and install. After installation, reboot the system. These maps are not expected to work, and you’ll encounter an error message if you attempt to launch the navigation. The purpose of installing these maps is that they reliably complete the installation process and generate a success flag, which is required to proceed with using maps.

Next, install the 2022Q2 maps. Around 95% of the way through the installation, the update will fail during the file verification step. To avoid displaying a failure flag, do not acknowledge the error. Instead, press and hold the Home button for 10 seconds to reboot the system.
this process lasts about 45 minutes

After the reboot, navigate to the app, and everything should function correctly (though the maps will be outdated).

To update to the latest maps, once 2022Q2 maps are working, you can install 2023Q4 maps. Again, the update will fail toward the end during the MD5 check. Simply reset the system by pressing and holding the Home button, and that’s it!
That's another 45 minutes worth of your time by the way!

After rebooting the system, check the version in the navigation options to confirm the update.

It's a request for the details for updating the SE infotainment with Trophy version software to be extracted from the other threads and reposted/repeated in here, as those threads are very long and so the details are hard to find.

Can a mod make the title clearer? To me, the title seems to be asking how you can tweak an SE to get it to do features that are normally only on a Trophy

The title is perfectly clear ... you CAN put Trophy software on an SE, and most of the features will work - even WiFi hotspot and maps (I believe).

The request is for the "how to do it" details to be made clear in here so that they are easily found. :)

I'm happy to do the editing, but I don't know enough about the software update process to know what posts to link. If someone in the know can post links, I can copy to the first post.

The last tutorial I’ve made is here

That's good to know. Does the Trophy have the hardware for rear camera and heated seats too, which can then just be enabled by software?

Thanks for the effort!
There is a list of changes you get upgrading this?

I drive a 24 Standard with rear camera and useless integrated maps.

Have installed r63 on my SE. I have the hotspot wifi and amazon music working fine which is cool. Just need to find the time to muck around the navigation files next.
The weather app tells me to "activate the head unit first"
Activation in the Settings menu gives the error "Parameters are not correct - please check and try again" and activating AVN in the Engineering Menu gives the error "AVN Activation onFailed = TSP doesn't have car info, please contact dealer." which on the other thread seems to mean the servers are down?
Still it's nice to have some extra features.

Edit: just tried to install the Australian maps and got md5 checksum error.

I think you should try to activate the head unit first.

Start by performing a factory reset and then reattempt to complete the activation process.

Alternatively, you can try to go to the “activate” menu in the engineering mode
Switch the environment mode from P to PP.
Reboot the system.
Switch the environment mode back to P.
And then try to activate the system.
