MG4 Undertray dip/bulge

Four options.

Have bulge, have dirt patches
Have bulge, no dirt patches
No bulge, have dirt patches
No bulge, no dirt patches.
Correct. I can test this for significance once the counts are there in sufficient numbers.
And we know in Australia they aknowledged the issue.

Heck! Mine as well..
It was close to perfect when I got it. But it isn't anymore. Left and right of the middle bolt you can see slight bulging appearing.
Could it be engine heat softening it?

Well, it doesn't actually have an engine, but it might be heat from the motor. Not sure how hot that gets, but there must be some.

Motor, transmission heat softening it is what I suspect.....and I haven't even picked my XPOWER up yet

Hi,

Can anybody provide the measurements of the official (Australian) fix?
Thinking of building one myself since the dealer has already reviewed the undertray and they say there is nothing wrong with it...

BR,
The Australian MG bulletin of the fix is attached in the pdf with a photo of the original bulge. The bar is just plastic about 5mm thick though you could use alloy or steel. The 3 bolts are probably a bit longer than the originals & there is a penny washer to distribute the clamp force. I don't have measurements but that would be pretty easy to do yourself

It still amazes me that any dealer can ignore it given the original MG fix in Australia.
I expect most of them are unaware that the fix exists. They wouldn't know unless MG UK had offered it to them and we know from correspondence when the fix came out that there's no relationship between MG UK and MG Australia.

MG downunder will not provide a fix for a bulging undertray without SAIC knowing this. In fact, I bet it is produced by the Chinese. That makes it very unlikely other MG importers are completely unaware of it.

So this undertray issue is fixed in Australia but nowhere Else?
Mine is going to first service at the end of this month and I had on purchase contract listed this to be fixed (my car was demonstrator).

I would be surprized if they would fit the bar.

Just noticed this thread randomly and it's made me realise I'm missing this undertray from my 2023 MG4 trophy. I received my car in August last year, and about a month after I received it I noticed what looked like a piece of cloth hanging from around the same area as the undertray.

Well this weekend just gone, I got it up on a ramp and thought I'd remove the cloth. There was no undertray on mine, but where the cloth is located is also a piece of plastic screwed in and looks like parts have been cracked off of it. So i suspect there was a undertray there originally but it's come off somewhere before I received the car or after I received (hopefully not from my driving ? ).

I have my car booked in next week to have the software updated so will be asking them to look at this too I think.

Officially, "the undertray is as designed", which is true but it is a rubbish design that sags. The clamp bar is an Australian solution which so far as we've heard hasn't been shared with other MG agents, these are all independent businesses which apparently share little apart from the branding.

Now five minutes spent looking at this forum should be enough for MG UK to realise that a fix (or bodge) exists with the bar and they could talk to their counterparts and make it available here.

But apparently their policy is not to read forums.

That's not very... Smart of them! :sneaky:
