MG4 Undertray dip/bulge

From a design perspective, it's just really bad.

If you design a panel to span a certain distance it should do just that, without buckling.
Having to patch it as an after thought, just shows shoddy design.

Totally agree. Can't argue with that at all.

But the "fix" is fine. 🙂👍

Its mainly a manufacturing flaw because of the variability of the buckle, some don't have it, whist others have it bad. Agreed the design should have taken this into account having a thicker/stiffer leading edge, and a more vigorous (some) quality control. The fix as it goes is OK but still a bodge! How many garages in the future will forget to re-fit it after doing some work needing its removal.?

I wonder if they didn’t want to commit to a redesign because not all cars have this issue. I do think it is nice that you can see the bracket, if you were to buy one second hand you can see the bracket and know you’ll never need to worry about the bulge. But perhaps that is overly optimistic

Don't think it's a Bodge. A Bodge is a badly made and awful looking repair that won't last, it's certainly not that. It's a solution to a problem, that actually looks ok. 🙂

Neither me or thee was there at the MG meeting where this bracket was put forwards as a solution. If the manager who passed it off said " brilliant here's a bonus" Salty wins the day. If he/she said "it'll do" I claim a win? 😁

Doubt he/she said brilliant. But it'll do perhaps they did. And it will, do. It does the job. 🙂👍

A month and a day after I originally took my car in, the bodge bracket is done! Glad its done, and this morning the service folks couldn't be any nicer. Now I can get on and enjoy my car
It's been discussed to death, the fix does the job, should the tray itself have been redesigned yes! But it wasn't and the bodge is the best fix they could do. At least people can go through a bit of standing water without the fear of their tray being ripped off

I’ve just been out and had look at the under tray there appears to be 3 air scoops not bulges proper scoops so there could have been a modification but we’ve only had the car 4-5 weeks so there’s still time for it to go the same way as other vehicles have suffered.

Would you mind sharing a picture for reference please?
