Hi guys, I bought a second hand MG SR from Germany, the car is looking brand new and it has only 14.500 km. Yesterday when I took the car in service for a software update, they told me that my warranty is not valid because the company who owned the car, made the service of the first year, 3 months later than it supposed to be done (i have the invoice for that inspection). Can be this true? I personally don't think it can and they just try to find reasons to make me pay for whatever. Any advice is welcomed. Thank you!

Sorry to hear this, sounds like bad luck.

It reads as a rhetorical question - clearly it is possible to miss the required service interval to keep the warranty valid, according to MG's terms and conditions.

Now you could argue that a specific issue should be covered because it wouldn't be affected by a late service, but most likely you'd have to go to court to see if your argument held up.

I am unfamiliar with German/Romanian law on this area but it might be worth getting some legal advice on your rights in this situation - is there consumer organisation or helpline you can use?

Yes, I can apply to get help from the consumer right protection in Romania but I think I might need to apply in Germany as well. The MG repair dealer showed me in their warranty a text where it says if you don't make the service in time you may lose the warranty but I checked the English version and it says something like: in case of later check service it could affect some issue related to warranty. So, for me as a non English speaker, the language speaks out for itself and is a huge difference. If any of you could help me with any paragraph in English, it would help me a lot. They said if I can get a proof from MG that the warranty is still valid, it would be fine with them. Also the man mentioned to me that they don't respond for any update failure or any damaged electronic parts in case it occurs. Thanks

Yes, this sounds correct, it has never happened to me but I am sure others have talked here previously about items that aren't affected by servicing should still be covered.

One thing you could do is go through what is actually done in the service schedule - it isn't a lot for the early services and so you could then argue that anything not involved should still be covered. You could even argue about the items that are involved whether a delay in servicing makes any difference.

Yes, I am sure we can help you with the language as needed.

Other forum folks: please can you contribute your knowledge and experiences here to help out. Thank you.

Was the car sold as having the warranty? If it was then you need to contact the dealer and get them either to sort it or take the car back and refund you your money.

There is usually an addition late time period allowed onto the actual due date of your service schedule, this is permitted due to people being away on holiday etc.
Normally there is an allowance of about 6 weeks to allow for mitigation factors.
Three months and you are pushing it TBH.
Other member have been in a similar situation and the dealer HAS offered to service the car late.
I guess you could contact MG customer services and ask if your warranty will be valid IF you restore the service scheduled and maintain it correctly and on time in the future.

Whats wrong with it? - as they will only update software if you highlight a problem at the next service, mines having a 2 yr service next week and we agreed to do no updates (as my LKA defaults to off, and I can live with the 4 degree temperature offset)

I've made an appointment for second year service for this coming Wednesday, in order to have it done in time. I do appreciate your help guys. Thanks a lot!

Well, here the temperature goes really down in January, for two or three weeks the temperature is between -10° to -22°C, so I needed for that to be fixed, well that is paid and taken care of.

That's exactly what I said to @dannyg3081 on his thread in the MG4 group on Facebook. :)

I took out a 3 year + first MOT service plan, and it was reasonable value considering that it also renews MG Assist (AA cover) each year. Are you going to say they saw me coming too? Or are you going to take your childishness elsewhere/refrain from such negative comments all the time?
