MG5 Confused over update versions

Yes Kevin, I did get to put in the charger number. I didn't watch the sequence all the time but when I looked the car said Charge cease.

It looks like without the update I should get Not Authorised, is that about right?

Thanks, I'll try the suggestions from you both next time I'm down that way...

I couldn't get much info from the salesman about software updates other than him saying it was updated in the pre-delivery inspection. On the screen it says MPU software version SW183-29867-1300R12 and MCU software version 83.3.4.8
Is the R12 the sofware revision? If so, what is the latest?
Many thanks
Picked mine up on Saturday and has the same software versions

I went through the process in the app of telling it which charger and starting charge but the car but it never started to charge. The dash showed it as connected but had Charge Cease on the screen, which I can't find described anywhere.
Took a detour via the Tesla open site at Cribbes Causeway, Bristol on way home to confirm if working and whatever I did couldn’t get past same screen/message on car’s dash. App appeared to be all set up with payment details etc and I was able to select charger, but went completely south thereafter.

I know, but still interesting to see what infotainment version the cars are being sent out with - does any anyone know if there’s a later release than R12?
[My XPower came with R40 when R59 (and R46 prior) had already been released for some time.]

There’s also a greater chance that if a dealer has taken the time to update the infotainment version they’ll have also done the modules imo.

As I now have 2 MG EV’s I’ll probably invest in the dongle/software and pay for a day’s access to see what versions I have for all the modules and do my own updates on both accordingly - seems a lot less hassle than arguing with the dealers…

Update: I took my MG5 into MG today and they "Carried out CCU, BCM, EVCC, TC and VCD updates". I don't know if that covers SCO52 as well but at least it should be the Tesla update done. They also replaced the numberplate that was put on very poorly and fixed the wing mirror seal - both of these I identified at handover thanks to people on this forum. Many thanks

Update 2: Went to the Superchargers at Amesbury today and happy to report that I was able to charge no problem at all. Thanks for your help guys - much appreciated

Tried mine today and failed miserably. Its not the Tesla app as have successfully used it with the XPower, so not very happy!

What were the symptoms of your failures? Similar to those I described above? I'm trying to establish whether the dealer had put the update on at PDI, as they said they had.

Yes, had ‘charging’ followed by ‘charge ceased’ on the dash with a corresponding ‘Electrical grid abnormal’ message on the Home-screen.
Was at the open supercharger site in Earley. Tried two different chargers with identical results.

@DCZH and @smokie, out of curiosity, what infotainment versions (MPU/MCU) are you on?
Mine also came with 22Q1 maps installed - I've downloaded the 23Q4 one to install as soon as I get around to it, and hopefully there'll be a more up-to-date version coming soon.
MG pilot and various auto functions all seem to be working fine, so without being able to see what module versions are installed its impossible to know if the dealer did any level of checks/updates (omitting the infotainment ones as non-critical) or just plain lied to me and did nothing!

Check the voltage of your 12V aux, the precursor update to EVCC fix (SC052) should increase the charging voltage to 14.6V.

I have supposedly got SCO52 but my voltage is 13.8V (100% state of charge) on the dashboard and in the app 12.4V. Exactly the same MPU and MCU versions as @Muffler. I don't know how to download map updates.

Interesting, that either means SC052 isn’t required for the Tesla update or it’s not doing as suggested?? Has anyone seen the >14V charge voltage? Maybe @shpub can shed some light on this?

Checked voltage on mine and it indicates 14.0V with everything off and is at 13.7V with lights and heating on.

I don't know how to download map updates.
Long winded method is to go to this MG site and enter your car's VIN to access manuals and map updates... User manuals
That will get you an instruction document with an embedded link that downloads a zip file containing the map update. Unzip to a formatted 32GB USB stick. Plug USB into the car, go to Settings/System and select update resources 'Resource Update' (instruction info references 'Map Update' as the selection but mine doesn't show that - see pic in #31 above) and follow the prompts. NB: It takes a while to read the files, so you have to be patient.

However, I tried it on a couple of different USBs and both times its stalled checking the Md5 file and kicked me out 🤬. Onto a plan B!!!

Ok, looking at the files there is no obvious Md5 file to check and seems to be no way around this, so guessing either the downloaded zip file from MG is defective or the later map update requires R15/R17 versions of the FICM/MPU software to load. Anyone else tried to upload the 23Q4 map data onto FL5 - successfully or otherwise?

I did mine after following this thread Naviextras Satnav Update available. I seem to remember that a) I had to delete the VN.txt file and b) it took so long to start that I thought it wasn't going to work.

Update: After several goes (and considerable time spent) at downloading/extracting/copying to various storage devices (microSD + 2 x 32GB USB 2.0 sticks) formatted in either FAT32 or exFAT, and with/without the VN.txt file, I finally had success using a 1TB USB 3.0 stick formatted in NTFS and with the VN.txt file deleted. Makes no sense whatsoever, but thanks for the heads-up re the file...

Missed this Muffler, sorry. I see you've now resolved your issue, do you still want this info?

Regarding the Tesla error, have you tried any Tesla chargers elsewhere, as that's the same ones I've tried and had the charge cease failure. Could be a problem there only. I tried the first three chargers on the right as you drive in.

Would still be of interest, thanks. So far I’ve tried a site in Bristol plus the Earley one - had a go on the 2nd from last and then 1st on the left as you drive in. I’ve realised I did have scheduled charging set at Earley (can’t say re Bristol) so may try once more this week before approaching dealer.
