Afternoon peeps, anyone had experience of lowering kits for the 5?
VHS Handling Solutions list a kit that lowers 25mm, developed by themselves.
At £250 +VAT sounds to be OK. I know they have extensive experience of MGR and MGUK products.
Interested to hear thoughts. TIA

Would that put the main traction battery, the expensive one, 25mm nearer the speed humps ?
Thanks for reply, That was a concern and why I put up the question hoping someone may have experience of this and if 25mm made a huge difference.

I’m guessing that might help the handling a bit but it must make the battery more susceptible to damage on speed humps / rocks etc.
I already find the car a wee bit low on entry and egress for the three quarter century back. Are lowering kits available for these ???

MG 5 Lowered on 19s, looks awesome!

I have been pleasurably surprised at how well the 5 does corner, I guess down to low weight distribution? I think dropping it another inch or so, won't make much difference to that, so is it just a cosmetic thing? Salty, your car looks err, cool, but what have those 19's done to the ride and slamming it has probably done nothing for the comfort either, I bet.

I'm willing to believe that at my age (over 75) roadholding, ride and performance are far more important than looks, else I wouldn't have bought a 5, which I think most people would agree is not the best looking car on the road?

My feeling is that a set of quality shock absorbers would be money better spent, as I notice it does tend to bounce a bit when cornering hard.

Not my car, just a mock up, to see what it could look like. ??

And don't forget to check with your insurance. It'll probably invalidate your warranty too sadly.

Yep, we know that, if you mod your car in ANY way inform your insurance. Personally I always have. If you lower your car, tell them by how much, they've usually got a between range, say up to 50mm and over 50mm. And you'll be fine.
The Worry-Wart comment was the car/battery being closer to the ground, take your time over speed bumps etc, which you should be anyway, and again you'll be fine. IMO. ??

Yes, but around parts of west london speed bumps are not to spec! yep, some dodgy council put in bumps that are a lot higher. So good luck!
Now, who to report that council to?

Hi, I have been driving around in mine on Eibach lowering springs for the last 2 months and it rides nicely. Slightly bumpier obviously but hardly noticeable. It's slightly more firm on mine as I'm running 225/40/R19's.

Handling is very much the same as before (good as standard). My reason for lowering is - the standard ride height on the 5 is ridiculous, most SUV's have less arch gap. I would of personally liked it 15mm lower but -30/-35mm springs are the only ones available atm.

Fitting of the front springs was easy (20 mins a side). I struggled more with the rear as I couldn't drop the whole axle down due to lack of suitable axle stand locations. So I had to do one side at a time which is awkward.

The paranoia over the battery is overexagerated. Before lowering I had 12cm of clearance between the bottom of the battery and the road. I now have 9cm. That is high in comparison to a lot of cars I've owned previously, none of which ever hit speed bumps. The 5 is a high riding car to start with so reducing the arch gap does little to increase damage from ground clearance.

How did you do the fronts in 20 mins?! Don't you have to remove the strut, compress the spring, remove, replace, & then refit the strut? Impressive in 20 mins!

Anyway, I'm thinking about lowering springs, was looking at the Vehicle Handling Solutions ones that give 25mm, (again, as usual I'm a bit conservative!), but they might be too little, I'll have to stare at mine for a bit when I get it and make a decision.

Where did you get your Eibach springs from please?
