Hi,

Could a FL MG5 owner tell me if I can plug in a USB stick into the usb type A port on the right side whilst also having a phone connected to the left USB type a port for Android auto?

Basically I want to have a permanently attached usb stick containing music whilst in parralel having wired android auto connectivity.

Yes I know I could host the music on the phone, but this is for a different use case.

Works for me on the ZS facelift. I can't see any reason it won't work on the 5😉

It doesn't work on my FL MG5. The right hand port is power only.
Someone suggested trying a usb hub in the left hand port - I don't know if it works.
My solution is to have multiple media players on my phone with each of them set to use a different folder. There are a few to choose from - I use VLC, AIMP and Musicolet.

Thanks for the tip regarding a USB hub. That's definitely worth a punt. The bus shouldn't give a damm about how many devices are connected to it, particularly given you are only ever using one at any given time (because when you turn on Android auto, you turn off the Infotainment based usb media player, and vice versa)

I have a fl MG Trophy 2024 vintage and it's either android auto or the usb stick in the left hand port and that's it. The right hand port is charging only I reckon. The 2 ports at the rear of the centre console are charging only also.

Interesting the setup works on the ZS FL though. A call to MG customer care might elicit something useful.

I doubt you'll glean much useful information from Customer Services  . From my experience they're about as much use as a chocolate teapot .
Anyway, in my 2022 ZS Trophy LR Facelift I can insert a USB Type C key into the left hand type C port and it plays music ( even though the manual says it's power only ) I can run Android Auto ,or play music , from the Type A port.
I really don't understand why it should be different on the MG 5 Facelift o_O

The 5 isn't really an MG design though, so the hardware isn't necessarily the same. There are loads of things that are different on the 5 from the rest of the range.
It does seem a little odd that they seem to have taken the data connection off of the right had port between the original and the Facelift.

Bizarre I would say 😉. Has anybody tried it ? The ZS owner manual doesn't indicate it's a data port
