MG5 Mk 1 v Mk2 - charging & boot size/shape

Thanks for the cable info above, given which I shall live without 3 phase as I rarely charge away from home.

I'm abroad till early Nov and am conversing with a dealer to do the deed on a red Trophy but we're currently stuck on him wanting me to take it away before I'm back!! He's offered to deliver it to my home but due to various reasons there is currently no spare space.

If you want to have “one fits all” cable you actually need a 32A rated 3 phase cable (22kW), this will allow you to charge @ 11kWh on 3 phase and @ 7kWh on single supply.

If you go for a 11kW cable, you’re still good for max on 3 phase but on single supply it will drop to around half (3.6kWh)

3 phase cables are heavy and therefore quite cumbersome for daily use, I store mine under the bonnet (no frunk required) for occasional travel and left the supplied single phase cable permanently connected to the wall box at home.
Yep that what I have. I use a 22kW charger quite a lot. To be honest I didn’t really notice the difference in weight.

It’s a little more stiff (no joke intended) but nothing that really bothered me.

Done the deal on a red Trophy LR, to collect when I get back from hols in Nov.

I got mud flaps from AliExpress for the Mk 1 so I suppose they'll fit the new one? Not massively expensive but every little helps :-)

I swapped a couple of weeks ago from an Exclusive SR...to a trophy, so the things for me that were different were:

  • LED Headlights....so much better
  • Restyled front with better charge flap and illuminated indicator showing charge status
  • Ability to do Vehicle to load....cut my front lawn yesterday using power from the car
  • Much better infotainment system with much better speed and visibility and bigger better positioned screen
  • All LED drivers information
  • Interior lighting in the rear
  • Bigger wheels (but nicer looking) on the trophy....this is what hurts the efficiency
  • Traffic Jam assist, Emergency Brake Assist, Adaptive cruise control, Lane Keep Assist
  • Mainbeam Assist
  • SpeedLimit information system
  • Remote App, that allows vehicle location and route back to vehicle, alarm texts if alarm system is triggered, scan of car status, shows charging status, allows locking and unlocking of car, allows start of airc/heating/front screen defrost/rear screen defrost, find car function sets off horn and lights
  • Redsigned seats with cloth inserts
  • Redesigned interior with better variable size cupholders
  • 360 degree cameras
  • repositioned wing mirror controls to on door handle
  • faster charging speed had 75kW
  • twin level boot
  • TESLA charge update...you don't automatically get that some haggling is required.

That's a useful list, thank you for going to the trouble of putting it in.

I guess the Assists are he same as I have on the pre-facelift. I currently have a rental car with 360 camera and love that. Not sure how I'll use vehicle to load but I expect it'll be handy. Better infotainment with bigger screen is also good.

It'll be nice to have an app too!!

Thanks again

If you want to do V2L you need an adaptor...I got this one.

I seem to be missing the update I did to this over the weekend so here goes again.

Thanks for that info @ALANB.

There was some mix up over the red but I have a grey Trophy ready to be collected on 23rd.

Do the mudflaps from the pre-facelift fit? I'm inclined to get new ones but why waste money? LOL

I don't see why not...as far as I can see nothing changed in that area, apart from bigger wheels on the trophy. Personally given that aerodynamics are part of the key for EV's I would never fit them.....

As they are sitting behind fat tyres I'm not sure that they would any adverse effect. I personally thought they improved the looks no end and I'm not one who is that bothered by appearances"""

Enjoy your horribly chipped up paintwork after a year or two then! I always fit them on every car I've ever owned. almost completely stops door and sill chipping from flying stones. Never, ever, noticed any difference in range, or MPG back in the day.

I'd be interested to know if mudflaps help to keep the reversing camera clean. Doesn't take a lot of rain to find yourself reversing blind.

Extra range? 17" wheels lowers range.
just bought Fl 5, and happen to have spare set of 16" winter tyred wheels, so will see what difference will be 🤞🤞🤞
I’m certainly curious to see the data, however iirc winter tyres are softer e.g have an increased rolling resistance which in turn may cancel out the benefit of smaller rims?

Also, on second thought, I’ll bet good money that your 17” ‘summer’ wheels will outperform your 16” purely due to higher ambient temperatures..

Had an MG5 SR for 4 yrs and never got any chips off the wheels or at all on the doors, sides, or boot, chips from following other vehicles on the front however a different matter.

Yep, always keep a good distance and give as many as you can a wide berth. This is why you should never do any of that slipstreaming behind trucks some EV'ers like to do for range improvement either, easiest way to wreck your paintwork!
