Mg5 trophy under seal

Hi
When washing my 4 week old Mg5 I noticed the under seal back and front of the vehicle has very thin plate in places where no over lap . Already I could see some pitting so I bought some lead guttering tape from Amazon on a roll . I believe by sealing the edge with the tape will save costly bills later .
Took 5 mins to do back and front . For those who may bother just cut a strip of tape heat up a little on the gas and rap around the seal this will protect the seal from rusting for ever .

You need to be careful not to block any of the cill drain holes which are normally on that seam, otherwise you could trap unseen water inside the cill causing more problems than you are intending to solve?

That tape won't protect anything. It will trap moisture and cause rot. You would be better off spraying the seam with Bilthamber Dynax UC, which has rust inhibitors built in.

Had difficulty making sense of that but if you are asking how to open a new thread in a specific forum, first navigate to the forum in question using the "Forums" tab at the top of the page. Once you are in the correct forum you will see two options for opening a thread. The more obvious is a button top right of the screen titled "Post Thread" and the second is a quick entry box at the top of the list of posts (your avatar will be alongside it).

Ok I will keep an eye on it . It’s underneath the car so I don’t think it will invite rot . The water comes from splashing up under the car and now the metal will not get wet . Bad design in the first place but if it has rust spots already I don’t think the lead tape will make it any worse .
But as I said I will keep an eye on it see how it reacts.

I haven’t gone anywhere near the drain holes so all good on that point.

I have decided to take your advice and remove the tape but my guess is one more year the seals will be rotted through . Obviously when the doors drain the water it splashed all over the seal making it flood with water .
I would love to look under a 3 year old car and see it considering my car is only 4 weeks in the Uk or so they told me lol
