It occasionally gets me too - I'd say it is a design flaw - a lack of ergonomic testing - a potential distraction as the head turns reflexly to the bright light and the brain goes into startle mode. The driver surely doesn't need to see the indicator as there is a sound and light from the dash...

Absolutely. Pitch black, look to the left over your shoulder and see an indicator light flash. Is that somone pulling from the inside lane into the lane I'm coming from?? Like you say, startle mode. When you're least expecting it.

So far I've not done much more night time driving since the original post, so not been a problem. However dark nights are a-coming earlier once more, so time to think about it again.
This switching off facility - is that on Trophies only or does the SE also have it?.... If so, where ? ?

Slamming it into reverse mid-three point turn is going to catch me out soon. I just know it ?
I change direction while still moving all the time in my Mark 1 ZS EV. Never had a problem with that, which seems like a minor miracle. But I suspect that's because it's all handled by the motor controller, whose firmware must have been written by a capable engineer.

The switching off was referring to the 360 camera on the Trophy which comes on with the indicators at junctions so you can see the kerb.

I really only noticed these yellow flashing indicators on the mirrors last night. I've driven the car after dark a lot, and they've never bothered me at all to the point I wondered if the SE actually had them. Well, it does, apparently! Funny how people's sensitivities are so different.

I think anyone would need eagle eyesight and an astonishing rate of fact absorbtion and interpretaion to react effectively whilst in any sort of motion to anything that can be seen on the 360 views. It's a triple-split screen with different info to absorb from each view (plus the instruiction to pay attention to be read!!). The fish-eye cameras are hardly good enough to give crystal clear and undistorted views (I've just cleaned mine again to see if it improves, but doesn't) and instantly reliable information. But worst of all, they over-ride and cut out the really valuable (at any junction) mapping view in either AA or MG Nav.

Just my opinion - I can accept that they can, very occasionally, be useful.

Yes I find the birds eye view excellent for positioning the car nice and straight when parking in marked bays. It's also great for parking in a tight garage as you can see how close you are to the edges before proceeding.

Cameras coming on with the indicators is a useful way of quickly turning them on when parking nose in, instead of allocating the left star button on the steering wheel to it, leaving the button free to use for another function.

Yes that's what I do .... the only downside is that when just indicating at T-junctions Apple CarPlay disappears, but on balance I'm sticking with using the indicator to help parking and judging distances.
