Have a 2023 ZS EV, about 8 months into ownership had a fault with the driver side tailgate leds (Tail & Brake) failing (2 out of 3 tail & brake leds went dull and then eventually failed). Got the light cluster replaced under warranty from the dealer no problems, I remember the dealer saying it was a known problem.

Just over 2 years in now and I've got a similar fault on the passenger side, same issue, 2 of the 3 tail & brake leds are faded when compared to the rest of the leds. They are still working for tail and brake but just not as bright so I imagine its only a matter of time before they fail.

I will be going to the dealer but I can imagine what he answer is going to be so I've been looking on ebay for a replacement.

Would anybody know 100% if the led tailgate clusters out of the PETROL MG ZS would be the same as the EV version? They are the same lights & shape so I imagine the same wiring harness as well, plus the seem to be cheaper than specific EV (very few showing) version, 50 from a petrol v 160 from EV.

I'd just like to know they will work for sure before getting one when needed.

Thanks

Not sure about where you live but 1st stop should be MG (unless for some strange reason out of warranty) and as stated a known issue (not sure why wanting to spend your $ as already paid once for the whole vehicle)

Hi Palah,
Thanks for the reply, doesn't really help me but thanks anyway.

As already stated, I will be going to the dealer but as per the warranty statement from MG lights (specifically bulbs) are only covered by 12 month warranty and Im over that. HOWEVER, what the warranty dosnt state specifically is LEDs, but I'd be sure that they will still be covered only by a 12 month warranty (unless specifically stated in the warranty and they are not).
If I dont have to spend any more I wont.
If I do have to spend then I'd like to get it at a more reasonable cost hence ebay and my original question of: will the petrol version of the passenger side tailgate led work in the ev?

try to find the part number for the petrol and for EV lights, might have to phone a few different UK and Ireland dealerships and just ask how much is blah, blah and what's the part number. if it's the same part number - yes, it will definitely work 🙂

Alternative is to ask eBay sellers if they know (they are usually breaker's yards so they should) and if it doesn't work, whether you can post it back for refund.

Thanks, actually didn't think of that! I might pull my own off the car (3 bolts) and check the part number and can compare against eBay as they usually have them photo'd.
Thanks for this.

Also, more parts are turning up on AliExpress recently, I bought set of 3 ZS wipers for £9

Wow your mg warranty sounds like BYD here in Australia. (Why didn't consider BYD )Only replied as couldn't understand why wouldn't be covered on such a young vehicle...Here even if out of warranty our laws state has to last for a reasonable time
