Hi,

So, after 9 months and almost 9,000 miles with our ZS EV we are moving on. Not immediately as our new car will take a few weeks to come through.

The ZS EV is our first EV and we have learned a lot from it. Overall it’s quite a good car - but there are a few aspects that we don’t like, but in themselves aren’t sufficient reason to chop it in after such a short time.

Our reason for purchase of the ZS was the excellent price being pre-registered combined with good trade in offered at the time. The ZS in truth wasn’t my wife’s preference as she thought it would be too big for her. That has proven to be true and although she manages with it on a daily basis, she isn’t 100% comfortable with it. She also isn’t comfortable with the range and the recharge process. She’s happy when I’m there to do it - in fact we have done many long trips in it. But the fact is that she can’t visit any family members without a recharge - and that makes her uncomfortable.

There are secondary factors such as the excessive condensation, poor heater, creaky steering, slow infotainment system that don’t help - but these are all livable with. Although the vehicle has been reliable, I’m also somewhat spooked by others stories about MG UK‘s attitude to customer service and the availability of parts.

Truth is that we have been offered a trade in which is only some £200 less than we paid for it in December, so the last 9 months have cost us very little & we have learned a lot in that time.

So, in a few weeks we will be taking delivery of a Zoe 50kW GT line. This was her first choice a year ago, but as it had then only just launched there were none available at a discounted price and rapid charge was an option at that time - standard now. Fast forward to now and it’s a standard feature. It’s a smaller car with better range and has a number of benefits such as a proper app which allows preconditioning, a more flexible charger which also gives 22kW AC charging. Will we miss the panoramic roof, yes we will. Will be miss MG Pilot, no.

So, there you have it, the deed is done.

Regards - Rob

Enjoy the Zoe, My Soul is shorter than the ZS by about 100mm, but in all other respects it feels bigger (other than the boot!)

I have no regrets after 1000 miles in 2 weeks. The ZS EV is a great value car and a very good first EV.

Thanks Mike. The EV is our second car, we also have an ICE car which is what I run around locally in when the Mrs takes “her” EV to work. So I think she’s entitled to have a choice in vehicle - the economics of this change now make complete sense. The Zoe 50 has some significant tech upgrades over earlier models which also tick all my geek boxes. We’ve also ordered the winter pack which when combined with the preheat facility will make her winter commute much better & condensation free.

I understand! Having an app and being able to remotely turn on the heating, steering wheel heater, mirrors & rear window is very appealing now I live in an exposed area on the top of a hill!

Just sounds like a better fit for your needs to be honest.
I guess it pays to be 100% happy with choice in the first place or you are never going to settle with the car.
Prices are strong at the moment, so now is the time if you wanting to change.

Being honest, I really miss not having an app with the ZS. Some of the other things you've mentioned I've not experienced (yet?), and overall I'm happy with the car.

Good luck with your new Zoe!
